Ok, so this is probably asking a lot...

I'll be there for two weeks. While I do love eating out, I also love to cook. It's part of the kitchy-nerd (or is it chiche, or ciche, or?) allure I've got going on . I mean -- how cool would it be to land in Coz early Sunday afternoon and have a huge pot of Chili done up and ready for eats for a few days?

Does anyone know of any good places to stay that have adequate kitchenettes. I believe that Costa Brava has a BBQ that one can use.... Probably need to rent a villa or something.

Of course, if anyone lives there and wants a private chef for a couple of weeks.... LOL.

I have never stayed but have looked at coral reef inn . I belevie they have a common kithcen area for people to use and a BBQ on the roof i think. They do some great cheap dive packages with dive paradies.

NullNullSem,

If you will be cooing for yourself, than I would imagine that you will be shopping at the Mega-Mart across from the Baracuda Hotel.

I warn you of consuming the pre-pared meals/food items.

I usually have a rock hard gut, but on my last stay I ate what some of the locals were eating at lunch from the "deli" and I got very ill for three days. Unless you have developed some of the same immunes that the locals have I would actually "cook" everything on Coz.

Have a great time...

Hacienda San Miguel is very economical and has nice kitchenettes with full sized fridge, stove and microwaves.

La Ceiba/El Cid and Suites Bahia also have kitchenettes.

Then there are the B & B type places mentioned like Coral Reef Inn, Summer Place Inn that are just a few blocks off the water that have common outdoor kitchen areas. I know there are more, but these are the ones that come to mind right now. Just received your e-mail also so I will get back to you in just a little while :)

Well, I too love to cook but nevertheless would welcome a personal chef. My friends who own a B&B here (Baldwin's) have a huge covered outdoor kitchen and part of the fun of staying there is that they will very often organize suppers (always free) for guests. Sometimes these turn into mini fiestas with friends invited. Everyone joins in and usually makes something...and if they can't "make" they bring/buy or whatever. Dale doesn't need much of an excuse to have a party!

I love shopping here and looking at the local produce and figuring out what I will do with it. My latest fav is chaya...and passion fruit. But not together.

I stayed at Villa En Canto Boutique Hotel Villas El Encanto Cozumel|Vacation villas|mexican style interior design last year for the month of February. It's nice, clean and very quiet. Ana, the owner does have some peacocks and dogs on the property. She lives on the property and is a great source of information. A group of four rooms share a living room and a kitchen. I cooked breakfast most mornings, the kitchen is well equipped. She also has 2 1 bedroom apartments on the property. It's located only a block off the Melgar and is an easy walk into town.

Have you ever cooked Mexican before? I know *I* was prejudiced before I actually tried it in earnest.
Sure, I love the stuff that's so spicy your nosehairs will curl (my favourite is Sichuan food), but Mexican food isn't like that, on average.

What they call refried beans is good stuff.

I just thought of another place I looked at years ago and my recollection, in addition to the very nice rooms for a decent price is that they had kitchenettes. Suites Vimas. Great in town location. I walked past it today on 10th Ave and Calle 2 or so. Still looks nice and I kind of wish I had tried it back in the day before we bought property here, although I don't think much English is spoken there. I don't have a business card but Google is always your friend.

Casa Deja Blue had a very nice kitchen, good prices too. Very short walk to the supermarket, had a nice time there our first visit.

This truly is the best board on the whole darn internet. thanks everyone :)

Why... yes!!! Authentic Mexican is probably my favorite type of food to cook. I went through a lava-hot phase a while ago, but I don't really like things too hot anymore. Rick Bayless, of NPR and the "Frontera" brand fame, is really a revolutionary chef for, IMO, those that thought of Mexican food as burritos and tacos. There is an amazing amount of variety, soooo much seafood, and most of it is NOT at all as unhealthy as Americanized Mexican food (same goes for authentic Chinese food, although it is -way- more 'healthy' than... most anything really).

MMM -- This "Dale" sounds like myself and my group of friends here in Knoxville. We love to get things going with a dinner oriented party.

So, I actually have to choose where I'm staying though...... oh boy. Doesn't seem like I can go too far astray though. You are all so great and helpful!
