I read about an advice to get a bicycle tire, cut it into sleeves and feed nylon webbing where it connects to the backplate. This should protect a harness some.

I went to my local walmart, they had a bicycle section. I looked over the spare tire tubing they had, I could not determine what size I need to buy for a 2" diameter when flat...

Any advice?

Don't BUY them. Just go to a bike shop, tell 'em you're a diver and what you want them for, and ask for some mountain bike tubes from their garbage. They will happily supply you with some.

Motorcycle/ATV shops or places that repair riding mowers/wheel barrels may also carry old/worn or new inner tubes.......You can take a piece of webbing in and see how it fits........

You are wrong, I did not skip math. Though I did skip on English 1st through 8th grades.

I knew what you meant.

Hey Texas.

I did the same thing wen i waas looking for tube for the harness to hold spare lights. i just opened the box in the store. i cut some spares and tossed the tube so i cant look and tell you what i got. If i remember the tube size onthe box is teh deflated size. I also got the large tube. 26" tire to avoid the problem with the cut sleve tryig to turn. I think i got a 1 3/4 or a 2" tube.

Hope this helps. I took a piece of the web belt into the store with me to measure.

You still got more schoolin' than Rick Perry :D

I realize this is a very old thread, but I am wondering exactly what size of bike tubing to look for to make belt loops on my 2" harness on my BP/W setup.

From the research I did I saw a previous post saying 26x1.75-2.35 however I did not see any sizes that met that.

I'm looking to make loops as close as possible to this here:

DGX Hogarthian EPDM Loop For 2-Inch Webbing | Dive Gear Express®

I have one of those but want to make a few more for my crotch strap excess as well as just have some backups, so looking to get something that will be comparable to those since those fit perfectly.

I actually went to a bike store yesterday and just asked if they had any busted tubes and they gave me about 6 of them, 2 of them being the right size. I cut some strips out of one of em and it ended up working perfect. No idea what the actual size is but I have more than enough now lol.

It's the part after the "x" that matters.
I like at least 2.3" "size" though it doesn't mean what some have suggested. It's not pi x diameter for the circumference of that sized inner tube. The "size" refers to the type of tire it goes with. The inner tube will be smaller. A 26" x 2.3" inner tube will slide on webbing okay, but will be a tough stretch over a backup flashlight. Unfortunately, getting a 3" balloon tire inner tube may be too loose to grab what you're storing.
For that reason I actually DO go to Wal-Mart. Their cheap Chinese inner tubes are thin enough to stretch better than the thicker rubber in more expensive tubes.
