Hello all,
just got my new Intova ISS 2000 with flex arm and diffuser.

The arm is quite hard to bend, and it does it in very sudden jumps, because the plastic is obviously quite dry. Will it just improve once in water (I doubt it), or may I otherwise grease it a bit? With what? Would silicone grease do?

Cheers!

Hi Maurillo,
It will loosen up with usage but please remember we want them to be firm so they maintain position, especially in heavy water movement conditions.
Best Regards,
Joe

Cheers Joe,
yeah, I thought of that. So better just leave it alone?

Thanks

Yeah it gets a bit better in the water, but I haven't needed to bother much once it's set correctly, the top swivel head attached to the lights I use for fine adjustments as needed

I'm back on the same topic, after almost 3 years. And it's still extremely stiff, or even more than then. As a result of the sudden jumps experienced when trying to re-position it, it broke three times in the past 6 months. I really think I should grease it a bit. Any recommended lubricant?

Get real arms, those thing suck.
I had some, experienced the same problem, and took pure silicone spray to them (no petroleum). Then they flopped all over. Then they broke.
Cheap, not good.

So. I greased it with WD-40 silicone-based. No change. It's still unbearably hard to move.

Time to move on: is the Intova ISS 2000 mount standard, meaning I could choose any one-ball arm to connect it to the arm structure? I'm thinking of a Nauticam or Ultralight tray + arm set. Any preference?

Thanks!

Unless there is a version of WD-40 that is SPECIFICALLY SILICONE, it's petroleum based.
In general you don't want to take petroleum based products near scuba gear. It eats neoprene, and some O-rings are neoprene.
WD-40 stands for water displacement......it is NOT a lubricant, in spite of the fact that everyone seems to think so.

Unfortunately in this UW photo biz, the more expensive stuff is generally better stuff. If you've been using those monkey arms for years anything will be an upgrade. Nauticam makes good stuff.

Thanks fmerkel. Well, it says High Performance Silicone Lubricant, on the can...

Doesn't matter, I'm going for some real arms. It's just difficult to keep spending money on a compact camera-based equipment... You never know how long the camera, or the case, will last.

Cheers
