Getting ready for my first trip to Cozumel and have been reading a lot of threads, I keep seeing the same dive shops mentioned over and over: bluext, blue angle, scc, aldora, and dive with martin. so i looked up their prices.. for 5 days two tanks with full rental gear excluding taxes i got the following prices /day: $114, $89, $85, $99, $57.

Is there something I should know about dive with martin? reviews on tripadvisor are pretty much 5/5 across the board, yet this shop costs half of what bluext costs, and significantly less than the rest. Is there a catch? Something the bluext or the others offer that justify the huge difference in cost?

Thanks!

Where did you get your pricing??? Blue XT has a posted rate of $85 and if you do a five day package it gets down to about $79 per dive. So $114 seems way off.

I expect the OP is including the cost of gear rental.

Hum, maybe, however I just got off of Dive with Martins website and they list their 2-tank dive at $90??? 1-tank dive is $60. However their price goes WAY down with their multi day package, all the way down to the OPs price quote.

the dive ops I have witnessed in coz are probably the worst I have ever seen on my travels.
Go with the cheapest and maybe use the saved cash for a dm for the first 2 days.

yes the prices I quoted are for 5 days of diving with full rental gear, sorry if that wasn't clear

Can you expand on this? Most people on this forum seem happy with a wide variety of ops.

There are several different levels of service in the dive industry just like in the auto repair industry. Sometimes you see the difference & sometimes you don't but it exists. I have dove with Blue Angel, Blue XT Sea & Dive with Martin & would recommend all of them to anyone asking, and if you need to rent much in gear I'd put DWM as my first recommendation for the exact reason you've noted. Do note however they like to get on the water a little earlier than many shops so you'll need to be an early morning riser with access to an early breakfast.

Yea really. Popping that steamer without more info seems trollish....

In his 17 or so posts in this forum, he never mentioned diving in Coz that I can see. He did issue a few lectures about getting bent and DM touching his stuff.... (not that it happened in Coz, just he wouldn't like it if it did....)
