I've been on a few (less than 10) night dives in my life, and I've not enjoyed these dives, because I've always had anxiety about the dark spots out of my sight. I've used spots of various powers, and I continued to not like night diving. Of course, I'm not a person to let this stop me.
My wife bought me a Sola 800 for a present, largely because the large flood area fills my field of visions evenly, with no hot spots, and a promise of a long life.
While I found diving for 65 minutes with the light set to medium power drew the power down to about 25% at the end of the dive, the lamp performed perfectly. I have just enjoyed 2 night dives in a row, and I attribute that to having the lovely field of view of this light.
If the airlines stole it, I would buy it again.

We love to hear stuff like this! It's great that you've been able to expand your horizons with the Sola 800--best of luck in your newfound love of night diving!

I use the L & M Sola 1200s for video and they certainly opened up great opportunities for filming at night... and if I'm doing night dives off a liveaboard, the operator can see me a mile away even on lowest power!
