Definitely serrated preferably, since the main use is as a sawing cutting tool instead of a push cutting tool.
I'm currently using a H1 Pacific Salt carried on my waist strap in a custom webbing sheath, but I'd prefer a fixed blade that was easy to deploy.

If I'm hung up on something in a strong current and I needed to cut myself free fast, I do not want to have to have the difficulty of pulling my folder out of its sheath and opening it.
With 5mm or dry gloves on, it's almost an impossibility.
I prefer to be able to pull out a fixed blade and cut myself free immediately.

The Spydies are very nice knives, I just think folders are not the best solution for diving.

If you loop a zip tie through the hole, there should be no problem opening it, even with gloves on, for you can pull on the zip tie loop. A lanyard slipped over the wrist solves the problem of dropping the knife.

The problem I see is closing the knife while wearing neoprene gloves. The lock style on the Atlantic Salt is a lockback with a David Boye dent. The "dent" makes it harder to close the knife accidentally, but with gloves on, I could see it being hard to depress lockbar.

The advantage of a fixed blade is that it has a sheath always at the ready. With a folding knife, the handles are the sheath, and unless you can close the knife, you don't have a sheath.

Those salties are the only thing that I dive with. There are easy to open(for me), but I am used to them. I loaned one to a DM in Roatan and he cut through a 1 inch rope underwater with ease. He tried to buy it from me, because it was so efficient cutting that rope. I gave it to him when I left the island. I usually buy the yellows because they are easier to see if I drop it in the water. It fits in a pocket easily.

How is it most commonly carried with dive gear? They don't appear come with sheaths.

I add a shackle & clip to the folding knives I dive with and clip them to my harness.

I have one in my save-a-dive kit and carry it free-diving/snorkeling, clipped in a bathing suit pocket. It's a great little knife. For scuba I have a sheathed dive knife and EMT shears.

Siera trading post has them for about $50 , I stole mine from my brother so it was free :)

While the Trilobites are my primary tools and live at one or more spots on my harnesses, I carry the Spyderco in my pouch or leg pocket as a back-up. I've never had to use it for anything though.
