I hate to hear mags called clips, especially by gun owners. I'm sure that it'd make your head hurt hearing people calling everything in a scuba tank air or oxygen. Magazines aren't clips and clips aren't magazines. Just as much as 10/50 isn't air and air isn't 10/50.

Heh heh...

I used to tell my carry permit students that for every use of the word "clip" when it should have been "magazine", their qualification target would be pushed out an extra 5 feet.

Here's a link to the Minute Man Review site where KevWind obtained the pic of the clips and mags. It's a good example and they ask that, if you use the pic, to include a link. I'm doing that here. It's actually a very good site and I've learned some things there. Very non-pretentious and educational, with some pretty cool reviews, links and project documentation. This guy gets it. Worth perusal if you got some spare time...or even if you don't. Just good info there.

Don't you wish. Yes technically speaking what I was referring to is 15 round Magazine .. BUT actually clip is a generic term for people who simply aren't hung up by a pretentious stick up the butt.

We know you made the mistake and were referring to a magazine, it's not a generic term its just a mistake as you admitted already, it's common with posers and others who just don't know anything about firearms, we hear it all the time. One of our great senators in Colorado who says she's spent 15 years of her life fighting to curb gun ownership and an expert at all things firearms has a famous youtube clip where she miss-labels about everything a laymen could in regard to firearms. She's gone now, she got recalled last year, not for being a firearms expert who didn't know the names of anything to do with firearms, but because she's a dumb ass who forgot she was supposed to be representing those who voted for her to represent them and their beliefs and destroying gun ownership here in Colorado wasn't one of them.

And has no relationship to knowledge or ownership ......... speaking of knowledge and enbloc is a "clip"

Probably why I said :

I have plenty 8 round enblocs, and (1) 4 round and a 2 round enbloc clip for my Garand, but no magazines.

I also have some stripper clips for another firearm I own. And no, stripper clips aren't what you're thinking Kevin.... shame, shame on you.

I like that :), that should break the habit quickly.

I've got a bunch of them, never used them though, do you like them? I use mostly P-mags, I don't even know if the spoons will fit them.

That was a nice explanation.

An easy way to remember the difference is, "magazine feeds gun, clip feeds magazine" (except when it's a moon clip feeding a cylinder on a revolver).

Ok you guys win. I bend to the apparent compelling need to seize upon and focus on perceived politically incorrect terminology, or trigger words apparently, as opposed to addressing what was actually communicated "We know you made the mistake and were referring to a magazine,". But if that is the kind of reaction or the extent of the what you've actually have in reply. Then of course that is what one should go with. Trust me if this is the extent of the how we will address "actual" challenges to second amendment rights then the doomsayers are indeed correct we can kiss our guns good by. So I'll just leave it to the experts to carry on

Or calling concrete cement. As one of my professors would say, "you don't call a cake flour"

Of course, I was taught that tanks are only to be called cylinders

Unfortunately Ms Degette is still a member of the house.:depressed:

She is currently on the committee in charge of finding out about the recall of GM vehicles and why it was delayed for so long. One can only hope her knowledge of autos exceeds her knowledge of firearms.

And an attempt to put the train back on the track

I can't think of a pistol I have ever fired that I like more than my Kimber Ultra Cary II .45. It is truly the finest shooting firearm I have ever owned. My experience may be lacking but I cannot think of anything I would rather shoot. Though I must say the H&K 9mm isn't a damn fine firearm either.

I must be a poser. I still load clips into my AR, my AK's, my Mini 14, my 1911's, my Hi-power and my other 9mm's, my many .32's and 380's, Ruger 45/22 and a few others. I use stripper clips on my SKS's though. My M1 Garand has another kind of clip but my M1 Carbine uses regular 15 or 20 round clips. My .50BMG is a single shot so it doesn't need clips. I do read gun magazines.

This is like the nonsense spouted by people arguing if a car has an engine or a motor. They will tell you the electric ones have motors and the gas and diesel ones have engines. I guess that's why they call it General Engines Corp. and Ford Engine Company.

Dictionaries are created by the usage not the usage by the dictionary unless you are French. Then that is all regulated.
