Any questions?

I don't think that clip will fit into my firearm.

This is like the nonsense spouted by people arguing if a car has an engine or a motor .

It really isn't nonesense. Would you really take someone seriously who doesn't know or refuses to use the correct terminology for something they're talking about? Would any of you take a guy calling heliox air seriously? Especially if he knows what he's saying is totally wrong and refuses to correct it? I'd say no. It isn't a potato, potato thing, it's right and it's wrong, simple.

So does the car have an engine or a motor? How about speed and velocity? I argued that one with a science teacher once. He said they were different. Velocity must have a direction vector. I said how can you have speed without direction? Webster said they were the same. Weight vs mass? Sorry, here on earth they are the same. And when I say I need a new clip for my Mustang Pocketlite there is no confusion about what I am talking about. Cartridges vs bullets? Different beasts but generally in context of the conversation we know which one is being talked about. Yes all air fills are nitrox but that does confuse the issue. Inserting a clip in an AR does not confuse the issue. Filling a rifle magazine may or may not leave the rifle loaded. Find something better to do than play word police.

The difference lies in context. In daily speech we may use terms interchangeably, but in reality speed does not equal velocity, weight does not equal mass, and cartridges are not bullets.

I'd never correct anyone standing around the counter at the gun shop, but I will not teach someone incorrect terminology as an instructor.

Could you explain the difference between speed and velocity? And on this planet the difference between weight and mass?

We know you made the mistake and were referring to a magazine, it's not a generic term its just a mistake as you admitted already, it's common with posers and others who just don't know anything about firearms, we hear it all the time.

Count me as another one of the posers who sometimes uses the term "clip" and "magazine" interchangeably. Do I know the difference? Yeah. I have several dozen magazines for the various guns I own, yet on occasion I'll still use the term clip when talking about them. Maybe I'm just lazy at times and find it easier to pronounce one syllable instead of three. But everyone in earshot still knows what I'm referring to, and I've yet to be flogged for it. :idk:

I don't think that clip will fit into my firearm.

A clip makes it more convenient to load a magazine. I have bandoliers of 10 rd stripper clips to load my ARs' detachable box magazines. I have 8 rd clips to load the fixed magazine of my M1 Garand. I have no clips to load the tubular magazines under the barrels of my lever guns. Those I must load 1 x 1.

I must be a poser. I still load clips into my AR, my AK's, my Mini 14, my 1911's, my Hi-power and my other 9mm's, my many .32's and 380's, Ruger 45/22 and a few others. I use stripper clips on my SKS's though. My M1 Garand has another kind of clip but my M1 Carbine uses regular 15 or 20 round clips. My .50BMG is a single shot so it doesn't need clips. I do read gun magazines.

This is like the nonsense spouted by people arguing if a car has an engine or a motor. They will tell you the electric ones have motors and the gas and diesel ones have engines. I guess that's why they call it General Engines Corp. and Ford Engine Company.

Dictionaries are created by the usage not the usage by the dictionary unless you are French. Then that is all regulated.

The proper names for these items were created by the manufacturers not a dictionary. Words like - receiver, stock, decocking lever, sear, extractor etc... aren't made up, they are actual correct names for parts that make up firearms, and there is nothing wrong with using the correct name when describing something so that everyone is on the same page. Everybody has to learn and start somewhere and nobody jumps down anybodies throat as long as their mistakes are made without posturing and attitude. Feel free to call ammunition bullets, we know what you mean.

I interchange them all the time too, sometimes it just depends on whom I'm talking to, when talking to somebody with little experience of firearms I may fall back more often, but when speaking to anyone with knowledge of firearms I try to speak more carefully, but I'm not always successful. :)

To try to redeem my part in this derailment, I will try to post a video later that I believe many will truly find a extremely interesting, destroy many myths and be a game changer sometimes for the most experienced of fire arm users

I'll preface it with why I was reminded of it.

I was in Bass Pro Shop recently and was picking up some 45acp in 100 round boxes, I was trying to carry 6 of them and had them stacked up one on top of the other, as I was heading to the stairs I was passing by their little room that contains their high dollar shotguns and such and figured I'd zip in and take a look on my way out... I cut the turn too quickly and two of the boxes got loose and fell to the ground and one broke wide open and the ammo flew everywhere, there were 3 Bass employees standing together in the doorway just a couple of feet away, one of them reacted to the ammo spill by jumping up and out of the way trying to avoid being killed I guess. I just stood there looking at him kind of dumbstruck for a moment until it dawned on me that the guys reaction was to the ammo hitting the ground and he was in fear of being struck by one of them going off....

It got better... when I realized why he did what he did I kind of laughed and mentioned he was in no danger... this is when another employee came over and started telling a story about how this happened in another store and a handfull of rounds had gone off and how lucky we all were that nothing happened this time... all three of the employees were in agreement with lots of head nodding, that they had just gone through a very dangerous episode and were happy they had survived without a wound... two of the three were gray haired and I've seen them before and suspect they have quite a bit of experience and knowledge with firearms, but they were all convinced that dropping bullets on the concrete floor could easily result in some going off and that had they gone off that the danger was extremely high that someone could have been possible killed or seriously injured...

If I remember correctly a round discharged outside of the chamber mostly just expands the brass casing (or whatever materials they are using now), rather than sending the lead "down range".
Without the chamber to prevent that expansion the force produced by the discharge takes the easiest route, which is not throwing the bullet with any force behind it..
