Because the design was developed for doubles and was adapted/band aided for singles.

I think he is making a flat back plate for singles not doubles. I believe you have far more people wanting to use them to redistribute their weight then use them for doubles. That is probably why there are wing manufactures now making wings with a STA built in. This is just a Miller harness with a metal plate instead of a flexible plate. If this is meant for a single tank I would put a couple of ridges on both sides of the center line to cradle the tank in place.

That is what was not clear in the original post or the pdf file.
Is this plate flat?
What is the advantage of that?
Is there any demand for a flat plate?

Scallop the top to work with a double hose..... Oh wait, that's been done.....

Is it bent or flat?

Design and market a backplate optimized for single tank recreational divers.

Like the Freedom plate?

More like the Jet plate. It was a flat plate designed to be used with a custom harness and wing. It could also be used with a hog harness. They seemed to get good reviews but the idea never caught on.

I always wanted to try the VDH plate but the cross-over straps put me off. Also I think the price is to high for an aluminum plate, I think it was priced right at $50.

By "colors" I assume you mean for anodized aluminum plates?? I would stay away from any type of "paint" that could scratch...

Usually stainless is powder coated not painted. Epoxy paint may work but I never seen it done.

I did a quick search but didn't come up with much, is this the jet pack you're referring too? Scroll down the page a wee bit.

Read through the posts on that forum, looks like that's not the one you're talking about.

That is the plate RHWESTFALL is talking about. The one I am talking about is this:
