I am sure the thieves love this thread. Why? Because it perpetuates the economic lifestyle they have worked so hard for so many years to establish and maintain.....The question you have to ask yourselves is" Do I feel lucky today" (thank you Clint) or is it "Am I part of the solution or part of the problem"??????????? I got my answer, do you have yours??????????

I have one word for the rusting sunglasses issue-havers: plastics.

i think I learned that from a movie a while back.

Seriously, mine are prescription Oakleys and there ain't a drop o' metal on them. Got some old Costas that are the same way. Love 'em both. Hold them under hot water and use a soft cloth to dry them and they're just peachy.

I left them rolled in my stupid hat in the back seat of the truck last month in Bonaire and I still have them. The more sophisticated thieves there must be using metal detectors now. :D

OP, sorry you were burgled, but this post doesn't make logical sense. Bonairean petty thieves don't read ScubaBoard forums or "work hard to establish and maintain" this "economic lifestyle". They're simply poor people engaged in day-to-day crimes of opportunity against a steady stream of more affluent tourists.

Other than the tired cliches, how does this make the point that thieves like this thread? They don't read ScubaBoard.

Second, It's been repeated time and again. Follow the simple, common sense rules, and you have little chance of being a victim; and it will drive crime down. Leave your windows down, so they don't get broken. Leave your door unlocked, so if someone really wants to rummage in your dirty rental they can. And leave nothing of value.

Second, except in the case of fools who leave expensive items and think they'll be OK, the thieves do not have a economy based on re-selling dirty t-shirts and flip-flops.

I love these "yer gonna get robbed in Bonaire" threads. Please continue to promote them.

Bonaire is getting way too crowded. Last trip we saw several other divers underwater. More than once. Well, this was on boat dives....

Please go to Cozumel. Please. I hate used fish.

Why can't I like a post more than once?

Say 5,000 times?

Mjrob, the hinges on your sunglasses are also plastic? It was the hinges that got rusty on mine.

This thread was actually not one of the recurring "if you go to Bonaire you will be robbed and die" thread.

THIS is one of those crime thread >>>> http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/bonaire/321158-warning-bonaire-theft-warning.html

Or rather, a parody of the typical ant-Bonaire, :dramaqueen: offering

Yep, all plastic. The arms have two little fingers with "bumps" on them that pop into divots on the main frame-- no metal needed. I love them. Get the blue coating. It's great for bright sun on the water.
