You keep mentioning professional level? Why? They are not doing any professional duties .The vast majority of DM's ever certified by PADI are not current. I wonder how there could be such confusion from one of your own shops divemasters as to what was expected. I guess from your lack of reply your shops program is not and was not ever spelled out and simply implied and then interpreted in different ways. I was just interested in the various policies though they don't really matter, When on RTB I fill my own tanks and don't use a shop or boat, You may , however, want to look into setting the policy in writing for the future so as to avoid any further confusion.

It is in our terms and conditions. Now you want to define the meaning of "professional level" within the dive industry?

RTB, it really sounds like you've had issues with dive shops in the past that you haven't been able to get over and are applying a whole can of ****ty attitude to the entire idea of "free fun dives for life".

Care to share your experience?

.
You are very wrong, My experiences with shops and instructors from OW through Instructor have all been very good experiences,as was my technical training, I was just interested in why someone would think the free dive thing was important when it comes to DM training and then it took off from there, Would you still be as happy with RG if they never offered the program?

In addition, I have yet to have heard of a returning DM that whines about doing their part on the boat. They are DMs, that's the stuff that DMs do
Actually You have now heard or at least read about Stout suggesting the program he expected was not honored. Also, Many are likely NOT divemasters, or at least not renewed. As I already said, I have no issue helping when I can but if it is expected then that should have been laid out when the program was first mentioned to a DM Candidate

I am quite aware of terms and conditions and the good OLD Bold Blue. Yet so many who were once Pro's are no longer so are those non professionals out of your shops program upon return?

#31 and #24.

That's actually incorrect Stout, we'd honour it and explained the procedure of signing you up each day at 5-6pm when we know which spaces/boats are available the next day, and that you would still be assisting with logistics on each trip. We also asked that you assist an Instructor on a course upon arrival to bring you up to speed with our operational procedures as they evolve and advance over time.

Every year we have Divemasters return and take advantage of what we offer as unlimited diving with our Divemaster program.

That's not what you told me via email, Andy. You pretty much said no citing things like wear and tear on weightbelts, tanks as well as mentioned the extra fuel my added weight would cause the boat to consume. I don't have those emails anymore as that computer with it's attendant email program is now an artificial reef so I can't "prove" that you said those things. But you did.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I did my DM, I knew that the dive free for life involved working, that there was more to it than just going diving. I have no problem with that format as it gives me something else to do rather than hanging around, smoking cigarettes, watching other people work and waiting for the "LET"S GO" signal.

David, I don't keep records indefinitely but PM me your surname and I will search if I have a record of the email, of course we incur depreciation and costs for every diver, that's why we require assistance and support for our operations in exchange for the diving. Either way the offer is still valid to you!

Well, upon reviewing past correspondence with Andy Phillips at the UDC, it's evident that I was dead wrong about the refusal to honour the dive free for life offer. I'm not going to come up with any lame excuses about reading something wrong as the words " [FONT=&quot]If you wish to return and dive with us David this won’t be an issue" are contained in the body of the email.

I'd like to extend my sincerest apologies to Andy and the UDC

Yes I would still endorse Reef Gliders without the free fun dives for life offer. As a Staff Instructor I recognize more mistakes in dive staff than most of your average OW Instructors and it REALLY gets old seeing a "professional" DMs or Instructors not be able to perform the most basic duties.

I endorse very few dive shops because I see entirely too many serious violations of standards go ignored by dive shop owners and management. I see people being certified as dive "professionals" that have NO business leading anybody on a dive much less teaching scuba diving but there they go, check off that Professionalism box because their check cleared the bank...good job asshats.

Reef Gliders does not turn out people like this and they have a long time reputation for it so I'll support them and refer people to them because they are one of the few dive shops that I think puts diving before the bottom line.

I can't speak to your experience but in my own experience I have never had a DMT not understand the deal with the free dive offer. I push that offer as much as I can to people who are wanting to stay around for multiple classes and have the time to do the whole program. It gives me a good return customer base for my Specialty courses and I haven't had very many dive shops simply stop offering the deal.

I am curious about Altons though. Andy, do you know if they're still offering that with Alton back in the seat?
