I am trying to get a solo card so I can dive at Dutch Springs and other sites that require solo cert as the local mud holes are getting boring. I live in upstate NY, and am having a heck of a time finding an instructor. Called all local dive shops, up to 40 miles and no one offers the coarse. Any help would be great.
thanks

Did you try The Scuba Connection in Hillsboro, NJ? The Scuba Connection-Home. If no luck there you might track down Joe Stellini, he is the NE SDI/TDI rep and I am sure he can hook you up.

Good life divers on Long Island offers it.

It's the PADI cert though

You mentioned talking to all the local dive shops; I would imagine whoever runs Dutch Springs might could tell you which instructor(s) certify a number of their solo customers. Have you tried them?

Richard.

Thanks for the responses, Dutch is 2 hrs away, I'm 1+ hr from Albany & NYC, I will try to find Joe Stellini and see if he can help.

Well, for what it is worth the opportunity to collect a SDI Solo certification came my way and so I did.

I think we need a thread, a collector thread, for operations world wide that are okay with solo.

N <--not the typical solo apologist, I am a militant minimalist and taken to a logical minimalist conclusion, a buddy is just extra equipment to tote around.

You don't currently meet the minimum requirements (100 dives or more, preferably a lot more).

In any case, their "find an instructor" page shows a bunch of places you can take the class: Search | SDI | TDI | ERDI

I did my SDI course online, then met the instructor for the first time at the quarry. Went over a few things, did my dives while he watched my bubbles, paid the man and it was all good.

So if Dutch is 2 hours away, contact a shop that offers the course and takes divers to Dutch. Do the class online and agree when you will be meeting your instructor. But, like flots says, prolly need to get some more dives in before you do all that.
