Let's be real, Watson sees Abernethy as a competitor. He's going to take any shot he can to try and shut him down.

But of course, and I'm not taking sides.

But what I boldened in the article is a direct quote from Abernethy, not from Watson or any one else. You gotta admit it's a pretty lame defense as worded.

It begs the questions:

When is the last time in recorded history that a 1000 lb Blue Jay bit someone at the bird feeder? And, could this be why they don't sell shark feeders at Home Depot?

Cheers,

Doc

In this case, it is like there is this guy that does not like horses, and he hears a person just died at a Dude Ranch, so he uses this to suggest that horses kill people.....even though the cause of death was actually a heart attack....

In any event, the authorities that did the investigation do not think that a shark attack was involved in the death.....That was just Watson taking any potshots that he could, to push Abernethy out of the Bahamas so Watson can try to steal his business.

Abernethy gets the best pro photographers, best TV or movie production people, and some of the biggest names in media diving oon his boat, because of the way he runs his trips, and because of the experiences he delivers--and that Watson does not. Watson appears to want this market so bad he would try and manipulate any death event, any way that he can, for his own ends.

Hey Dan,

And I don't either and in nay event my posts to date have not argued either side. My posting of the article, that I did not write or influence, was to get a chuckle over the boldened quote from Abernethy made in an earlier Undercurrent article.

Am I missing something here?

Cheers,

Doc

Sorry Doc,
I know your posting style is always positive.....This is not really on you...it's just an issue many of us are sensitive about.
The issue is huge, like peeling a layer of an onion, only much worse :)

Actually, I think the bird feeder analogy is a good one. So many liken feeding sharks to feeding bears and that comparison is a faulty one. Birds don't seem to be adversely effected by being fed and it's apparent that they are fed on a rather wide and consistent basis.

Yeah but you don't see anyone feeding Giant Condors or trying to hand feed a Stellars Sea Eagle or Harpy Eagle. Personally I don't see the need to do shark feedings when it just encourages people to kneel or lay in the sand.

Jim, by all means, if you don't like shark feedings, then vote with your fins. There are too many people in this country trying to tell me what I can't do based only on their personal preferences. Drawing inferences from mammalian behavior and applying them to sharks is naive at best.

For me, it's not a matter of preference but concern for how my personal well-being may be affected by the actions of others. If someone else has taught sharks to associate divers with food, my fear is that I'll cross paths with one of those sharks sometime, and they'll have the learned reaction of diver=food when they see me.

We've seen this in areas where lionfish hunting has been practiced for a while. The sharks get used to the easy meals and start bullying all divers in the area, including the non-hunters. There are areas where lionfish hunting by divers has had to be stopped because of this, despite how desperately everyone wants to see the lionfish population reduced.

Not just mammals. It is illegal to feed gators in Florida too. The FWC takes that stuff seriously as well.
