On a liveaboard, immediately after you have a quick shower post-dive, you're being fed. And fed well.

Same with a southern AI. Minutes from the dive site , get dropped off, pick up a drink on the way to the room, shower and food steps away.

What's an example of this? I've yet to find one anywhere yet, and I have pretty much given up that any really exist. The closest I have come was this summer at Turneffe Island Resort in Belize, however the resort turned out to not be really high end. To get that magical experience we have always had to combine a high end resort with an independent high quality dive shop, for example The Presidente and Aldora or when we were in Rangiroa, the Kia Ora and 6 passengers dive shop, as I've never found any high end resort that had the combination in house because I believe for the most part high end travelers who really want an emphasis on diving are very rare. I think you have a broader travel/dive experience than I do so if you know of this combination, where do you know of them?

Misool? Gangga Island Resort and Spa? Siladen Resort and Spa....just a couple of others that quickly spring to mind.

All that walking back and forth, pfft!

On a liveaboard, you're under the shower as soon as you get your gear off your back and the hot snacks are being handed out on the dive deck. That's called a surface interval.

The euro-influenced boats will save the hot breakfast for after the first dive of the day - you place your order before the dive and your made-to-order breakfast is served as soon as you've showered and sat down. Lunch is ready as soon as you're done with the second dive, after which you gear up and get back in the water. American boats will serve the full breakfast before the first dive, have snacks before first and second, then lunch. In either case, you're eating snacks after the third dive, before gearing up for the fourth. And then, depending on the boat, you eat dinner before or after the night dive. You can do all this without ever going into your stateroom.

I do like the convenience of a dive-friendly AI or dive resort, but there's still no comparison of convenience to a liveaboard. Diving can be tiring, even on nitrox. Diving 4-5 dives a day can be exhausting. Eliminating wasted effort is key to doing 24 or more dives in six days.

Thanks, Wingy. I knew there plenty more in Indonesia I couldn't remember off hand. I met Hanne at a dive show a few years ago and was treated to a very nice slideshow of Gangga, and have looked into Misool and Siladen before. Villa Markisa is another on my list, though at this point Malaysia is on my radar as I'm thinking about combining a trip with a non-diving "friend" to include orangutans in Borneo and diving in Mabul/Sipadan, trying to figure out the best place to stay where she can be occupied while I'm underwater for a few days.

for cozumel , the advice from djdiverdan its great.

The dive with bullsharks in playa its great, your best option in my opinion its phantom divers, Scuba dive: Riviera Maya. PADI Diving center Playa del Carmen
check my 28sec video : TUBURON GG BULL SHARK PLAYA DEL CARMEN - YouTube

is a ferry cozumel-playa-cozumel almost every hour so you dont have to buy the ferry in advance
México Waterjets - Fery Cozumel-Playa del Carmen, Playa del Carmen Ferry-Cozumel

you could stay one nigth in playa and also dive the cenotes , I suggest : dos ojos, angelita or chac mool.
