A rep from a competing regulator company keeps insisting that Scubapro regulators are made in China and not in Italy. I thought they were made in Italy and I can't find any evidence to the contrary. I would like to hear from someone who know for sure. Where are Scubapro Regulators made (parts and assembly)?

Thank you

This has been beaten around quite a bit. Here is an old thread with your answers: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/fins-masks-snorkels/94173-tusa-regulators-made.html

Scubapro to my knowledge is made in Italy.

From a post from "DA AQUAMASTER" in 2010: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/regulators/327871-what-tusa-equivalent-sp-mk17.html

People screw this up and or mis-state it all the time, so let's be clear:

1. Scubapro designs its own regs then contracts with Tabata to manufacture their designs. It makes sense for Scubapro to do that as Tabata has state of the art manufacturing facilities that would not be economic for Scubapro to acquire and maintain for just the volume of regs they sell. It does not mean Tabata "makes" Scubapro regs in the design sense. It's a Scubapro product with Scubapro patents that they subcontract to someone else to produce.

2. Under some of the manufacturing agreements, Tabata has in the past sold licensed copies of Scuabpro designs through TUSA. TUSA = Tabata USA. Note the capitals letters here and the name makes sense. Tabata did this for over a decade with the Mk 5 and also sold the MK 16 R390 as the RS-460. The MK 16 is the R-400 first stage in the TUSA catalog and the R390 is the S-60 second stage.

In that regard, the possibility may exist for TUSA to market a copy of the Mk 17 once Scubapro's exlcusive rights under the manufacturing agreement expires, but that may or may not happen.

Halcyon has recently announced plans to sell the MK 17 as the H-50D first stage and the Mk 25 and the H-75P as well as the R390 as the Aura and the G250V as the Halo. Deliveries are supposed to start by the end of March 2010.

scubapro regs sure are cheap to buy in China compared to the US.
they are supposed to 'leave the country and return' but stuff in China seems to fall off the back
of the truck a lot.
I purchase a spare scubapro mask here in Beijing which isn't even a strong scuba city for half the price
i paid for in in SoCal.

tabata made, if you want the ones that Halcyon has licensed I would recommend buying those ones, support the little guy in Florida vs. the massive Jarden Corporation....

It would seem that TUSA makes all tusa and scubapro regs. Some of the tusa regs are licensed copies of tusa made scubapro regs. Some of Halcyon's regs are also licensed copies of tusa made scubapro regs.

Since nobody has addressed the "where" part yet. Here's what the tusa website says:

Tabata's global network includes facilities in Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, Netherlands and the United States.

They do not mention anything in China.

Taiwan is basically China... Have someone who works in a scubapro shop check the box. I think they are mostly done in the Japan factory though. I think they use Taiwan for the cut and sew stuff, masks etc.

Taiwan is officially named the Republic of China, it was and could be called "China". Since the Peoples Republic of China was given the UN chair for "China" in '71 it is getting rare to hear the ROC called "China" as time goes by, but it does happen.
