Oh by the way. It would be illegal for a Private Pilot to fly your dog down, unless he did it for free. You would need to find a commercial pilot if you want to hire one.
Question, out of curiosity - what if you fill up the tank of a private plane and the pilot "just fly"?
As in no direct payment for the actual service - only costs?

Regarding dogs, flying and drugs - many dogs are "frequent flyers" and do so perfectly fine without drugs, as cargo - Thats not generally "carryo-sized" dogs though. Then again, neither is the one in question here...

There's companies that do that for you. Dog would need to be crated. It doesn't seem like there's a quarantine in Belize as long as you have the required health certificates. All the details seem to be here: http://www.baha.bz/animal_health.html

or http://www.pettravel.com/immigration/belize.cfm - which I believe charges you for the forms access.

google: international dog transport for a start. There's quite a few firms that offer the service and online quotes. I liked the looks of this one as they seem to be doing more corporate relo work than just vacation flights. https://www.worldcarepet.com/about-us.html Obviously hard to tell from a website...

Pretty expensive though...

While the "service dog" idea has merit, what if it doesn't work? 80lbs. seems a little excessive without at least buying the dog a seat between two of you. Although I have seen a Golden Retriever service dog on a flight once. The lady that owned it asked that no one pet it as it was working on the flight. So if yours is real friendly, that might give it away...lol

Nope, it's illegal. The costs must be shared equally. They have to split everything...gas, oil, rental fees, landing fees. If you can't document it then the pilot is in jeopardy of losing his license. It should be that way. There is a lot to learn in becoming a "Commercial" pilot. Would you want an unlicensed Doctor or Dentist? For more info check this out:

Thats VERY much not the same given the fact that a plane is transportation, not brain surgery.
Its more like "would you allow your friend to drive you to work or preferr to drive yourself" (if you know the person). If you dont know the person I guess it would be more along the lines of "would you allow a stranger you know have a drivers license to take you?"
Which makes me think of hichiking which is more along the lines of "why the **** would I get into the vehicle of someone I know absolutely nothing about, not even if hes sober or know how to drive?"

-The 80# in the cabin isn't a problem as long as he is at the feet and not in the isle per the airline websites. There must be a doctor letter stating the need, it is very strict. Which it should be.
-Driving down isn't an option for us unfortunately.
-I will contact Doran, thank you Ralph. As it turns out, we will be just up the road from Splash.
-United does fly and it does look like the temperature policy on their website is only for certain breeds unlike American Air. Definitely warrants further investigation. Thanks for the heads up Zeagle!
-The whole private vs. commercial pilot thing is true, if they are private pilots they must share equally the cost. Not sure how that is counted or tracked. I am sure we could work out something, pretty flexible. I will have a vehicle that I will need to sell when we board the plane. Maybe my new friend can help me sell it...
-Yes, I have done a ton of research and spent a lot of time on this whole damn thing....

If a brain surgeon screws up the patient dies, he still gets paid. If a pilot screws up the pilot dies.

BTW, most Doctors make terrible pilots...some not all.

A Doctor in a Bonanza, now there's a scary thought.
