It is a concern of Hog, thus the recommendation . Not sure how an inline shut off would help. Even if the second stage didn't trigger, depressurization would occur.

Either way, I'm just passing along the info, use it how you see fit.

how would depressurization occur? Put an inline shutoff on the second stage, go to drop stage, flip switch, leave bottle turned on. Requires an extra $15 in parts to do that from DGX. Worth it considering the D3/Zenith is now more than twice the price of the D1/Classic combo's.... and still quite a bit cheaper than the D2's.

Inline shutoff works on my setup especially when I want to mount my pony like a can light rather than sling it like a stage.

You're comparing combos while talking about first stages, thus the difference is only $50 at retail, I've gone through several of the cheapy inline connectors and stopped using them years ago. Hate it when an inline falls apart in your hands, especially when on rebreather. A trustworthy switch like the Omni costs around $50. Now your up to the same price, plus adding a valve (additional failure point) to the system.

Sorry, just doesn't make sense to spend the same amount of money and introduce an additional failure point, just to avoid dealing with the design issue. If you are really that concerned about money, the more effective choice would be to go with the D2. No need for the cheapy in line switch and all you loose is the turret, keeping $20 in your pocket. How much hose routing do you need on a stage rig anyhow?

I don't use the turrets on my stage rigs, but I haven't had any issues with the recent batch of cheaper inline shutoffs, nor have I heard of any in the last 2 years or so and it doesn't bother me as an additional failure point because it means I can leave the regs pressurized which I much prefer. Seen far too much water get inside of regulators from depressurization, especially in the ocean when people shut them off. Not worth it to me.

Wow, this discussion will now be clearly deemed worthless by the general population! 20 minutes of conversation better spent elsewhere!

yeah, back to OP's Q and exec summary

D3 had the replacement hard crown, but shouldn't be needing to be replaced ever, has been changed to no longer have that. It has a captured O-ring for the turret, not beneficial for anything other than depressurized first stages, even then not relevant to this conversation. It's turret can swivel with hoses on it without hitting the DIN screw, not really relevant for most diving, certainly not recreational diving.

If you want the D3 buy in like the next 10 minutes before the price hike takes effect and the D3 regulators are no longer worth purchasing because the larger companies with more/better support will have cheaper prices. If you want to save money, the D1 is just as good for your use and the use of the vast majority of people and about half the price, just doesn't look as cool. For hose routing, singles tank routing with the turrets can be done one of 3 ways
Turret up, enviro seal down, hoses look like normal regulators, not a fan
Turret down but cocked slightly towards your left shoulder, primary on the 5th port going down, either as a 36" ish hose to an elbow, or a 7' long hose, secondary and inflator coming out of sides. Not a fan, but useful if you're diving in a drysuit in single tanks
Turret sideways, with primary and inflator on the turret, octo on the 5th port, SPG coming down. Gets the regulator flat, and allows me to swap from the left post regulator on my doubles to singles just by putting the primary on the same side of the turret as the inflator.

I disagree. A lot of differing opinions have been shared and the reader can determine what is in their best interests.

My head hurts from reading all this :D

So, Jack is now in charge...and is a great guy!!!

One thing that was even brought up here was stocking issues with Hog. You can't always have the lowest price, and cash flow. With the growth they had, they could never keep ahead of the product demand with the margins they were running. Plus, everyone wants new products (sidemount) and other things from a manufacturer. The problem is, it all costs money. Money they weren't making at the time due to getting the name out.

Now, Chris was a great guy, if you knew Chris, he wasn't a numbers guy. He just did what needed to be done from the top of his head. Jack is a numbers guy. If you really want to see a company grow, inventory flourish, and new products, customer support, and all these things people want, there had to be a price increase at this point in Hogs Life. I think that you will see the pricing go up a little and then back down as Jack feels everything out and gets some more numbers and dealers on board. You will also see inventory increase and a ton of other pluses from Hog as a manufacturer.

Pricing increases suck for everyone, but I think it has been something Hog needed to do for years, but never did. The problem is instead of a little at time, your getting hit all at once. Chris should have always had a little increase every year so this didn't happen. Regardless, they make a hell of a product, and there are lots of dealers that were mentioned here that will continue to service our customers to the BEST of our ability on all fronts

Feel free to email me if you have any questions on this or any other price related Hog issue I can help clear up....or catch me on our live chat. Mike@diverightinscuba.com Yes, an owner of a company likes being on live chat and talking to his customers.

I am glad to see Mike address this. I've been working with Jack over the last few weeks on some new stuff. As I said earlier, and Mike affirmed, if you want to see new items, items in stock, and more support you need cash flow. When you have a question about a product, price, or service issue, call or email one of us that actually sell the items and know what is going on. Myself, Mike, Edd, Randy, Bob, etc. all talk to Jack and, because we are dealers, are kept abreast of new developments. Those who think they have the inside track that are not dealers are offering opinions. Not always based on facts. Are there going to be some hard feelings over changes? Sure. Anytime anything changes someone will gripe. But if you pick up the phone and call me I'll do what I can to help you with those issues causing you a problem. As I'm sure any of the other dealers will. That's what we are here for.
