So Scuba-Do in Key Largo has been closed. I have heard from staff there it was a result of the owners not being able to get back in the country with their Visas from France. I called 305- 451-3446 and the VM says they are not longer accepting reservations. That was one of my goto Keys spots.

i heard(from an employee and local rumor mill) the operation has been in trouble for months and selling the business was being pursued. it's been a very active 6 months for upper keys dive operators(relocations, selling/purchasing operations/vessels),,,,,,,,,,,,,

Reefman we probably know the same crew down there.

Sorry to hear that. We dove with them last Fall. Good crew.

Lots of changes this year...I don't think it's over yet. I foresee more moves, sales, mergers, closures, etc.

Elena: what do you think is driving this.... is business bad in the Keys this year? Or are there more immigration issues or are a bunch of owners of roughly the same age simply ready to retire and that just happens to hit this year?

Neither do I.

The most successful dive ops in any hot dive market has almost zero staff turnover. Guests like to dive with people that remember what their likes are from their previous visits and in turn they provide the best referrals. Use any easy guest service management software to track their likes and dislikes and you'll be miles ahead of your competition.

I had nothing but poor experiences with them, late cancellations and bumps and rude boat captain, inexperienced and required dive master. No solo for certified solo divers and all in all a place I will never use again.

I couldn't agree with you more!! That's one of the reasons I like Conch Republic so much (even though they frown on solo diving which is mostly what I do these days): they treat me well, have done several favors for me over the years and when I call to make a reservation, Brenda or Jason treat me like I'm family that they just saw yesterday, even though my last visit might have been 9 months in the past.

That's also why I like my LDS Jupiter Dive Center so much too. They really treat their regular local customers well.

Back on track to the original topic: Is that why there are issues in the Keys with ownership changes, mergers and shops closing: e.g. staff turnover which is alienating customers impacting customer service which in turn causes business to drop off?
