YS 01 STROBE DEAD / NO indicator RED LIGHT TURN ON

Hi everyone
i really need help and advice

currrently i'm using ys01 strobe with canon g12.I just came back from dive at redang terengganu.During last dive, i'm tried to turn on my strobe but no red light indicator turn on.No target light seen.I pretty sure that my battery still fresh.After dive i did inspection and notice no flood in battery compartment. But i notice that inside my strobe seen from externally, there was small bubble or water drop in it. It is indicated that my strobe already flood? it is any tip to save the strobe?

Hi, have you talked to anyone at Sea & Sea? There seems to be an issue with these strobes and batteries. The power and whether or not your shooting on continuous (rapid fire). I sent mine in for repair and that's what I was told. It was not flooded but did suffer from condensation which is believed to be from the internal heat of the batteries. ?

When you have an adequate answer or solution, please post it.

Hi, i had email my problem to sea and sea singapore. They said its was probally due to short circuit issues.But they cannot confirm the problem until further inspection done. They asked me to sent the unit to singapore for inspection. If your strobe successfully repaired.please inform me the progress and repair price as soon as posible. If service cost affordable, i plan to sent the unit to singapore for service.
The problem appeared after i store the strobe in low temperature room. about 20-24 celcius degree.The strobe started condensated

I am quite sure that a 20C room shouldn't condense enough water inside the strobe to kill the electronics, we routinely bring strobes from 30C outside to 18C inside with no issues, they are supposed to be sealed from water, no?
When you turn it on can you hear the capacitor loading (whine).

Hi, I just experienced the same problem as the OP. I just sent my new strobe to Sea and Sea for repair. What was your outcome from Sea and Sea?

I know this is an older thread but recently the same thing happened to both my three-ish year old YS-01s, within days of each other they both stopped powering up. Sent them to Sea & Sea, they scratched their heads and handed them off to someone else (no idea who, its very unclear).

Just how common is this??????? If I can't get the YS-01s repaired I may look elsewhere for replacements.

Got the word one is beyond repair the other would come in at about $500. "Signs of some flooding" and "Some sort of power surge" "fried them" to differing degrees. Well I did not observe any flooding unless it was possible for the 'sealed' portion of the strobe(s) to flood and then not drip when out of the water. So the batteries would seem to be the culprit, as they died withing days of one another. I did switch from 'costco special' rechargeables to Eneloops about six months (37 dives, and the camera goes under with me just about every time) before the strobes died... As it turned out they had not been handed off to an outside company, S & S was still working them.

would seem to be very relevant.

I rapid-fired the strobes on occasion, but I don't think more than 5 or 6 shots at most. by that time I would lose position or the subject would swim off. Much more typical would be two or three, and with time out for adjustments between. Then move on.

I wonder how many others have fallen victim to this?

The same thing happened to my S&S YS-01 (made in Japan) that I bought 2 years ago but didn't try using it until recently. It does not turn on at all. I bought another new one (now made in China) last month for a dual strobes setup for an upcoming dive but now only one works. I just emailed the distributor TUSA in the US to get an estimate to try to get this unit fixed. It seems to be a design defect or poor QC as it has not been in the water at all. I will keep you updated on my progress with the US distributor to get this unit repaired.

Another one here too. I had the same thing happen to one of my YS-01 strobes last month. I could fainlty detect tiny moisture drops inside the front lens of the strobe. No flooding of battery chamber at all. Strobe will not turn on. I also note that just around the edge of the clear part of the housing, where it connects to the black part, that the silver finish inside has darkened or flaked. I think this shows a possible ingress point for water under pressure.
Anyway, I did not think it would be any cheaper to send overseas for repair (if possible) so I lashed out and bought a new one.
