PST Tank ?

I just got my (new to me) PST tank (E7-80) back from hydro it came back with a plus rating, service pressure stamped on the tank is 3442

1. Is it correct for this tank to be able to get a + rating when it originally did not have it?

2. If yes than the new pressure is 3786 correct?

3. Does this new fill pressure have any negative effect on the tank?

4. If the + rating was incorrect are there any negative effect if someone fills it to the higher pressure?

You're going to get a lot of different answers...these are MY answers. You and others may disagree. Let the fun begin....
 
i would check to make sure the hydro facility tested it correctly. if they stamped a + rating, they may have tested it as a LP tank incorrectly.
 
If it has a pluss then it means 10% overfill allowed. I would say that at most any tank monkey should know that there is no + on a 3442 tank and might refuse to fill the tank. Its an improper tank marking so it may be the same as condemning the tank. You could try to fill in the + with paint if a painted tank. What ever you do you can not obliterate the marking. Paint is making the mark unreadable but it is a fixable thing if that is a problem. As another has said . Go to the testing facility and ask for the hydro record look at it and see what they will do about it. They may have to replace the tank. Another source is to give PSI a call, they can tell you where you stand.
 
Pump that sucker up, and get in the water!!!!
Those tanks are damn near bulletproof, and while you might have a hard time finding a fill station in LA to jack it up past 3500 PSI, you are ready to rock.

Thanks for all the info. I does seem like they messed up the hydro. I guess for a messed up PST hydro this is not so bad, they did not fail it due to improper testing. I'm left with the question of do I bring it back and have it redone or just go with it... I don't think I'll have that much of a problem getting it filled (locally at least)
 
Mine must have the + rating too because my compressor shuts off at about 3950.

I concur with all that the + is bogus and meaningless. It is a special permit cylinder and it's rated outside of the 3AA family that is eligible for the +.

You ask a good question with regard to redoing it. While actual failure in use is highly unlikely it's hard to say if they flubbed up stamping or perhaps only challenged it as a LP cylinder. The first step is to have them review their test log with you. The DOT takes this very seriously so they should have specific records of test pressures and results for your cylinder's serial number. Depending how much more incompetence they demonstrate should be part of deciding if they touch your cylinder again.
 
Until you post a photo, I refuse to believe there is a + rating stamped on the tank. Either you are mistaken or this is a troll posting. That's my story, and I'm sticking with it.

DOT fines of hydro shops can be quite substantial so I would expect the shop will be interested in straightening this out as quietly as possible. If the shop is reluctant to cooperate in making sure the only error is the plus marking and correcting that error, then contact DOT on this matter.
