I have no issues with Abernethy. Just commented on what I had heard. I was incorrect. No issue. :)

Ok then...
Here is a great news story that helps show why many people believe Abernethy is a great operation to "Shark Dive" with...
Swimming With the Shark Whisperer Video - ABC News

He handles the Palm Beach trips in the same manner he does the Bahamas trips....He does not do feeding dives...just baiting.

Thanks do you work for that charter?

No....But I dive with Jim often. And have done shark dives with him here off of Palm Beach.
I think he does them as safely as they could be done...considering that big animals, even horses, can injure a human without even trying to....If you want to do a shark dive, Jim would be my suggestion.

Cool video! Thanks!

Checked out Emerald charters and it seems like they only do nitrox charters, im not nitrox certified :(

At the depths and length of these dives, you should be.

Yeah i know just havent had the time and now that i have a little bit of time i want to get a dive in. But when i called jims shop they assured me that some air divers do this particular dive

And I'm sure they will do your nitrox class during those dives too.

Depends on which spots they're doing and the profiles. The Esso Bonaire and Gary's/Lemon Drop #3 are bottom dives with a max depth of 90 and 100 feet, respectively - definitely nitrox territory for a three-tank trip. On the Bonaire you can park on the stern at 70-75 feet and watch the action from there. I know on the Emerald Randy recommends new shark divers stay up there on the first dive anyway so they can size up what they're getting themselves into. At this time of year both of those sites are pretty much lemon sharks only, although the Bonaire also has a nice goliath grouper aggregation piling up.

On the other hand, if JASA is doing drift dives on the Jupiter Deep Ledge, air might work. Generally on the Emerald we drop to 80-90 feet at the start and work our way up. I'd say most of the action is above 50 feet once we've gotten the sharks' attention. That's also the more diverse site at this time of year - lots of duskies, silkies, and sandbars; there are still bulls around and scalloped hammerheads if you get lucky.

Agreed! Do the online course ( about 3 hours on your own time ).
