As far as I'm concerned add deco, deep and overheads as advanced, at least when when I learned them they were, but I guess some of us are throwbacks and don't care for change.

The important part is that there is a solo forum. Technical or advanced is irrelevant to me. It is what it is regardless of the title. The critical change occurred when they opened it up to the masses.

As mentioned above location is pretty irrelevant since a large number of members find most threads via New Posts searches anyway. And this forum is [-]- and always has been [/-]100% outside search engine indexable so Google and the others index it daily or more frequently. Our SEO (Search Engine Optimization) generally places us near/at the top of search results.

In all honesty, Pete likely won't even see this thread. It's a big board and he's one person. He actually never saw the thread Damselfish linked to either but several mods did - any who would've brought the topic up for discussion in the backroom if we felt it had merit. Including me since I'm a solo diver and subscribed to this forum about 5 years ago. No one did.

When we made the decision to open up this sub-forum we also considered (briefly) moving it. But left it under Technical diving - I believe since specialized equipment/training is generally thought to be needed by solo divers in agency approved programs. At least that's how I recall it.

If you're still looking for some traction for this discussion - posting here is the wrong place. A better option would be Feedback in Site Support - there other members might see it and respond. If enough do - of course we'll re-visit the decision.

If you'd like we can re-title this thread and move it there. The simplest way is to Report it with the requested changes since any available mod sees that soonest.

I was against it from the very beginning, you were for it from the very start. I still see both sides of the argument, coming closer to your stance on this, but not completely there yet.

Given enough time, your reasoning will most likely prevail...

It either is or isn't. "Whine and Cheeze" was indexable until complaints against a certain *seemingly* disreputable dive op got squelched by their *allegedly* threatened lawsuit and the forum was renamed as "Thumbs Down".

Guess what? "Thumbs Down" can't be seen outside of SB. Try it for yourself.

Solo took the opposite approach, it was hidden to all but subscribers. Now it is public. I'm still not thrilled about it, but I did have my say when the decision was being made. I still disagree, but you can count me among the loyal opposition rather than one of the seditionists.

I'm sorry but I'm clearly not following what alleged thread/threateneed lawsuit you're referring to. I've been around for over a decade and the only time I can remember a lawsuit had any impact on SB was the Maldives LOB suit that we "Defended" against successfully in court a few years ago. One of the terms of that is that future references to it here be censored - see - here's the plaintiff's name: *****

Honestly if you understood how simply we act/moderate to the ToS you would know that such conspiracy theories are nothing but a source of comic relief among the staff... - we sometimes wish we were that cunning...

When it was hidden to all but subscribers you are probably correct. So I retract the always. Now that it is not a subscription forum it is fully indexable. Even to non-members - As you can see I was logged out when I viewed this forum just now. Anyone can read the threads now, only members can respond.



Actually besides is/isn't there's a third option. we have forums that are viewable by every member yet only posted by those who are approved for the sub-forum. An example of that would be any of the club forums like DiveNY. You can view it but not post there unless approved for membership by their selected forum moderators. Who can also drop you, delete posts within their forum etc. So can all the mfr's reps in their forums as desired.

Guess what? - there's about 20 others also. Point of clarity - when I posted "forum" I meant this one - Solo Divers within the Technical Diving sub-forum. I was not referring to Scubaboard collectively as "forum".

Neither is the Pub or any of the board support forums visible - there's even a whole "Mod Squad forum section where we conduct our business. And several dozen? private forums - some of our mfr's have one just for their dealers, some clubs one just for private club business. I used to manage one myself in the SW region - before I was a mod. A lot of them have forum moderators - not to be confused with SB moderators - they only have control over their specific forum. Our software calls both groups moderators when they're listed in who's who so it's confusing. Some don't even show up on the list - everything is configurable based on their requirements.
