I can only tell you that I had very close encounters with sea lions out of La Paz twice off a tiny rocky islet which seems to be a regular standard dive site for that purpose. Maybe called Las Animas or Los Islotetes. Didnt see them in my limited diving out of Cabo. You are doing a bucket list liveaboard first so if you skipped all other diving in West coast it wouldnt be tragic imho..dont miss Yucatans Cozumel though.

Heres my intenary so far.
4 days in playa for the sailfish run and bull sharks
8 days in Cozumel
9 days Socorro
3 days la Paz for the sea lions and chilling. Not gonna spend more time on the pacific side as i will probably get the best of the diving on that side while at the Socorro islands (like iampaulski said)
~5 days staying in Tulum to dive the cenotes
After this I'll have about 1,5 weeks left ish, which might be spent going back to Cozumel if I enjoy it, or stay in Tulum a little longer, or even heading down to Belize for diving around ambergris caye.
Stoked!

If you have a little time on the tail end you might look at Xcalak. It's the very bottom end of Mexico on the same peninsula that becomes Ambergris key. Beutiful reef diving but low pressure from divers since it is remote for Mexico and off limits to Belize based ops. Good road down from Tulum by rental car or bus.

I've read that conditions rarely let you dive there, maybe I haven't done enough research tho. Will check it out!

For sure! Will post back with a video :)
Here's my video I made this fall in the Maldives if anyone wanna watch;

the reef runs from cozumel through belize to roatan. the yucatan has cenotes, belize has atolls and roatan has walk in reef. That pretty much sums up the area. Ambergris Caye gives you access to the reef, the atolls and the blue hole. Not sure how you got connected with cabo but we all make mistakes. the one place you do not want to miss are the atolls in belize.

Yeah im most likely going to ambergris/caulker or xcalak to end my trip. Xcalak seems really interesting but there's not much info about it.
Not sure what you mean by cabo and mistakes?

the mezo american reef going from coz to belize and on to roatan is the center of diving in that part of the world. The cenotes and atolls are close by. The pacific side does have a few islands here and there but is second fiddle to the carib side.

Are you trying to say that th Socorro islands will be second best compared to Cozumel? Because I highly doubt that lol.
