User Titles are based on a ladder system and there are three ways to have a user title.
1. Become a Supporter, Sponsor, or Business Sponsor
2. Join a User Group
3. Do nothing

#1 Become a Supporter, Sponsor, or Business Sponsor
ScubaBoard FAQ - ScubaBoard
http://www.scubaboard.com/community/account/upgrades
Once you become a Supporter/Sponsor you can change your User Title to anything you like (as long as it's within our ToS)

#2 User Groups
If a user joins a User Group their User Title will reflect a hierarchy based on a diver's achievement.
Example: If a user joins the User Groups Dive shop, Instructor, and Photographer their User Title will display Dive Shop.
You can join a User Group by hovering over your user name in the top right of your screen then select Join User Groups in the menu.

#3 Do Nothing
If you don't become a Supporter/Sponsor or don't join a user group your User Title is based on your post count.

Garibaldi 0
Angel Fish 5
Nassau Grouper 70
Barracuda 200
Manta Ray 500
Loggerhead Turtle 1250
Great White 3000
Orca 5000
Giant Squid 10000
Blue Whale 15000
Kraken 30000

I just noticed my title has changed from one of the critters to Solo Diver???

Yes that would mean you joined the group Solo Divers at some point.
If you leave the group you would have the name of either one of the other groups you have joined or if you're not in any group you would have a fish name.
To leave a group hover over your name in the top right of your screen and select Join User Group. You can then click Leave User Group within the menu.

I guess I joined it ages ago so I could see whatever useful info is there. So I can't access the information in the solo divers forum anymore without getting the label "solo diver"? Not that there's anything wrong with that... But I'm actually not, unless you count diving with a photographer.

So I am a member of a couple of usergroups... but none of them is "Dive Shop" anymore.

Can I stick with Rebreather Pilot?

I had the same question. I decided to count diving with photographers as "Solo Diving". ;-)

This needs changed. I saw in a thread someone taking a bit of offense to being labeled a "DIR practitioner" and now I see why I have the "solo diver" label. There are some negative connotations having been given these labels.

I don't want to leave the DIR practitioner group, as I find there is some useful information in there that applies to my diving, but I am not really a DIR practitioner. This system needs to be changed.

This is pretty much the reaction I had. I'm not anti DIR, or pro DIR, but think there are some interesting things that are worthy of discussion. How exactly does that make me a DIR practitioner? To automatically get tagged as something you are not is somewhere between annoying and useless. It is even more annoying that it can not be changed by the end user that is affected. I solo dive which is most assuredly not DIR. But the bots on this site don't seem to know that.

It's a silly system. It's even sillier for the solution to not having groups titles to be either bow out of the groups or pay for membership.
