Not sure I could read those numbers that close, @Jax. I think I would go on bailout for the few minutes I would be doing that skill.

I don't know the Petrel's display on CCR mode, but could it display the PO2 in different colours as well so that it would indicate safe / not safe values as a HUD? Then you might not be able to read the values, but see the colour.

It flashes red when it's in a danger state, for instance a super low or super high PO2. However there is no Smithers code equivalent on the screen.
 
Why not use a nerd?
Good question, I can't imagine diving without a HUD or NERD. I use a HUD but only as a high/low alarm. I don't usually count blinks much. when both hands are full of a scooter, reel or other "stuff" having some way to check ppO2 hands free is imperative
