A diver was pronounced dead after being pulled from the water Thursday morning four miles off the coast near Dubois Park in Jupiter, authorities said.

The man was pulled from the water by a Sea Tow employee and Jupiter officers began life-saving measures on the boat, officer Adam Brown said. Police were notified just before 10 a.m.

He was taken to Dubois Park where Palm Beach County Fire Rescue continued to try to resuscitate him and transported him to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m., the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s said.

An investigation determined the diver had gotten sick and began to struggle once he entered the water, officials said.

The captain of the boat tried to assist him but he remained unresponsive, according to authorities.

Was the diver sick before entering the water and then began having issues? Am I reading that right?

I read that once he entered the water he got sick and began to struggle. But the wording is bit vague.

I see that Sea Tow recovered the diver. Where the hell was the boat he was diving off?

Could be the dive boat called Sea Tow for assistance. With Jupiter Drift diving, divers can be spread all up and down the reef line so the dive boat might not have been able to abandon the other divers that were still under water.

I've been picked up by Sea Tow Vessels twice, I think.

They are very nice and when a diver is reported missing or overdue, they will assist in the search.

I have zero knowledge of what happened in this case.

I've heard some details, including secondhand reports from people involved in the recovery and listening to radio transmissions yesterday morning. Spearboard had a more extensive discussion, but that thread has been taken down. From what I had heard, an additional complicating factor was 5-8 ft seas.

A friend who monitored the transmissions thought this was on the Emerald? Maybe someone on the trip can supply more details?

The discussion on SpearBoard seems to be the one with the most info: RIP David Ley - Firefighter Diver On Emerald Dive Charter Passed Thanksgiving 2016 - Spearboard.com - The World's Largest Spearfishing Diving Boating Social Media Forum

I was in Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving, so I don't have firsthand information. I've heard some second- and third-hand snippets that don't add much to the link I posted; I'm hoping once the official investigation concludes details will be released.

Diver did not get in trouble upon entering the water as reported. Diver was tremendously overweight and out of shape. It was the Emerald, maybe they will fill in the blanks.
