I believe the first one is a Cryptic Teardrop Crab and the only reason I know this is I saw one on a night dive in Bonaire earlier this month.

i think the first crab is a southern teardrop crab. it is smaller than the cryptic which generally shows more purple and speckles.

Thanks for the correction. I went back and enlarged my photo and I think its a southern too. I found the cryptic searching and just stopped there.

i always forget which is which. i either have to look in the book or ask my divebuddy.

i am always just so excited to see one. then the next task is to try to get a half decent photo.

on our last few bonaire trips we have found them every night dive just off the dock at the divi in about 15 feet.

And I have confirmed that I am as confused as anyone else. I did a quick search on "teardrop" in my opics and turned up this gem of a Southern Teardrop which I had labelled as cryptic.

based upon body shape i claim photo #4 is a red night shrimp with eggs. I could be wrong
