I just don't log dives
The story so far:

A couple of months ago I was in the market for some new regs. I needed some for sidemount, for deco tanks, a couple of sets for my students and so on. I knew the impending sticker shock was going to jeopardize my dive medical so I was starting to look at some really odd options.

Then I heard about this new upstart start-up called Deep 6. I headed off to the website, had a look around and then found the Deep Thoughts section where the owner laid out his idea of how the future of dive retail should be.

I immediately realized that this would be something I needed to support. It also didn't hurt that the prices were WAY lower than I had been expecting. No service for two years? Free service kit with the regs? Lowest cost of ownership of everything I'd seen so far? What's not to like?

After an email exchange with Landon and Chris, I suddenly realized that Chris was in fact @cerich with whom I'd had a few pleasant conversations on this board. A few more emails and I had an idea of the fin size i would need and the best options for me to order.

Living out in the sandpit, I use a freight forwarding service which charges by weight as well as number of boxes, Chris packed everything in a single box like a scuba-Tetris game while alone in a sub-zero warehouse post Christmas, being delayed by Skype calls "just clearing up ONE more thing..." like the worlds worst Columbo.

Then it was a daily refresh of the tracking page while everything moved its way sooooooo slooooooowwly across to me.

This afternoon I got home to a BIG box on my table and unboxed.

There's a couple of review threads on here already so i won't belabor the build quality and general solidity of the regs. The proof will be in the diving which I can't wait to do. Its the first time in a LONG time that I've considered taking a regset into the bath...

As the experience continues I will post my thoughts here for good or bad, Im going to be using these in pretty much every configuration known so should be interesting. To me anyway :dork2:

Herewith is the unboxing video i took, yeah thats how excited I got, never even considered doing one before and here I am like a teen with weird earrings and a youTube account.

Did you only get Din caps with the Solo 1st stage? Didn't see it with the kit?

Looks nice and Shiny. I know where you live and where you dive... Even if I have to take them off you underwater :D

freight forwarding service

Do you mean "Shop & Ship" service from Aramex? If so, is it much less expensive than using regular courier service from Aramex or UPS, etc.?

A freight forwarder is like a travel agency for freight. You tell them what you're shipping, whether it's air or ocean, and they arrange everything (I've worked international shipping for 24 years, and I'm also a licensed customs broker on the import side). RP's shipment from Deep6 possibly went in an air or ocean consolidated shipment, where lots of small shipments are combined together, which results in lower costs for everyone, rather than shipping via UPS or Fedex.

I'd be interested to hear how exactly his shipment shipped. :)

ya know, I saw that as well and was like WTF?? I had my part time shipper bring me the first stages to me so I could change the DIN end piece to the new one (so the orings don't come out as easily). I then watched her test them and left her to pack them in the in the hard cases after ... maybe I should have watched that part, but I took the hard cases as she filled them and started finding the box I hoped I could fit the whole order in...
I had already planned to ask her why she didn't put the DIN caps back on, plus I need to send some out to Rainpilot.

Air forwarder based in Jersey if I recall.

I ship to forwarders quite often, I got to know them when I lived in the Caymans and used them for my personal stuff back in the 90's

I know in general what a shipping forwarder is but I was curious if he was using this specific service "Shop & Ship" that is very popular in the Middle East.

Are you still in the shipping business and can do the job of a "shipping consolidator"?

Are you implying that D6 will be coming out with metric gauges soon?

@cerich
yes but soon is a interesting word. That is a 10k investment that will most likely have a slow inventory turn
