Mr Chairman, I've bought the girl's their NetDoc Safety packages but I had a couple of questions. 1) My finger spool doesn't currently have 100' of cord on it, maybe 50'. Do I need to fill it up? 2) Do they each need a compass? I have mine on my SPG and I'm comfortable using that.

Thanks

Yes, they need compasses... nothing too expensive, and not on the console. Check out Deep 6 or Hog for wrist mount. Your finger spool is fine. This will be fun!

I have an extra compass found @ BHB that I was unable to find an owner for. It's out of a console but if you want to mount it to a slate it would serve the purpose. Free to whoever wants it

Question, @The Chairman, my perdix electric compass will work, correct?
Mine does... but you will probably want to remove it from your wrist when you use it... just be prepared. :D :D :D

Let me back up... they don't 'both' need a compass, but it would save time. Sharing is OK. However, you're going to hate your console mounted compass.

Humm... looks like I'll be packing a slate mounted analog compass in addition to the SW... I think that perdix is going to stay firmly attached to my wrist while under water!!! :)

so Pete, just for my clarification on compass use, to get an accurate heading you want to be able to have the compass fully extended in front of you - preferably with two hands

Agreed - I did my AOW navigation dive with it and ended up taking it off and holding it out in front (no concern if dropped as we were 6 feet above a nice sandy patch the whole time). I found it hard to get aligned with my course and not too close to my face while on the wrist. It felt like you'd need to be somehat double jointed and have really long arms to use it effectively on your wrist.
