So on my recommendation, I had my father buy the package that includes the primary, secondary stages. He received them and took them to our LDS to have them checked and to install a SPG hose. When he went to pick it up, the LDS service person showed him that there is a leak between the first stage and the hose that feeds the secondary. She said she changed the O ring, but it was still leaking. You could hear the leak. At any rate, she was really put off by the DG6 gear, calling it "Off Brand", and "that's what you get when you buy off brand". She said she had never seen this company at some dive show that is apparently big, and that she would never dive with it. Seemed a little over the top, but I get that DG6 is new and not that well known. We took our OWC here together and I trust the folks, though the reaction to DG6 gear was a little odd.

My father is in touch with DG6 but considering returning it and getting a ScubaPro reg set instead. Thoughts?

I bet it was the High-Pressure hose. I've had some issues with some HP hoses not sealing there. I think there is some interference with the hose shoulder. I like their gear just fine otherwise. @cerich

That is beyond laughable, but it appears obvious from your post that you guys frequent this specific shop and the shop is evidently a ScubaPro shop. If your dad would be happier spending 2 to 3 times what he spent for the Deep 6 gear then go ahead and have him swap over. You will see absolutely zero difference in performance. And for the record, I am sure @cerich has been to DEMA every year that he has had the company. (That would be the big show, that your person could not remember)

Yeah, it was totally DEMA that is what she referred to. Yeah, they are ScubaPro dealers, and while that is fine by me, I just think it was over the top the way they responded to it. We had beers after we left the shop and talked about the reaction.

I agree and think it was over the top. People that go too far either way kinda scare me off. There may be an issue with the HP shoulder on the first stage like @The Chairman said and he would know as he dives them sexy regs. I would say it should be a rather easy fix too, maybe just a different HP hose that has a smaller "fitting".

I think they were going to try swapping the hose. I told my father he could just contact DG6 after they swap the hose if it still leaks. I'm guessing based on the things that I have read about the great customer service at DG6 that he would easily swap out the entire set no questions asked.

LOL!

This response is so predictable. Just to make you feel better.. I have had a local shop try to tell me my Poeidon regs are "Junk", and... "really only used by old timers, into vintage stuff". Now I not gonna try and claim Poseidons are still "the best", but they have been at the top end of this game for quite some time.

In any case, due to the nature of the scuba industry and how shops are financially joined at the hip with the scuba brands they promote, you can almost guarantee that a typical LDS is going to try and be snarky about a new brand that threatens their core principles.

Chris... maybe new D6 regs should come with a warning label. .."Caution! ..Prolonged use of this unit could lead to Butthurt for LDS operators and their undereducated employees.."

I'm not pro Deep6, or anti Deep6. With that being said, if I bought them new I would not bring them into my LDS to be 'checked' and set up. I think it's similar to buying my own auto parts at NAPA and bringing them to my car dealer to be installed... Nobody does that with car parts.
If I did buy Deep6 I'd be prepared to be much more 'independent' with them. I'd also be prepared to get some guff from a LDS. Just my opinion.

Good morning,

Reading thru the replies, my gut tells me there are some valid points made.

To address a couple, yes, we are a newer company, we have been to DEMA the big international dive show the majority of the industry attends twice. However as we are not looking for dive shops to be dealers, it upsets them. We go there to connect with Independent Instructors and also to meet with our vendors (the same ones used by many major brands) We have also attended a bunch of consumer shows, Long Beach (x2) Beneath the Sea (x2) Our World Underwater Chicago, Hong Kong DRT, Shanghi DRT, Tec Dive USA, Blue Wild, and a few NSS-CDS Conferences. We are a sponsor for the TDI Mission Tech this summer as well.

If you decide to return your gear, of course we will refund you. If the shop has managed to plant a serious seed of doubt that you can't shake, please do return the regs. We want you to be happy with your gear and enjoying diving, not worried about the quality or safety of the gear.

In short, I believe they don't like the Deep 6 business model, they don't like that you bought the gear online and they want to both punish you by planting a seed of doubt and hope that leads to you buying from them. You picked up their response was over the top, now you are put in the bad position of believing them who you know and trust, or believing a bunch of people on the Internet that you don't know. That sucks.

Regarding the leak, I would be very surprised if it left here that way. I would not be very surprised if they made it leak.

We'll do whatever you like, but this next part is important, the most important thing is that you and your father be comfortable with the gear you are using, if there will be a "niggle" of doubt, switch to another brand. Diving should be fun, not stressful with concerns eating away at you.
