Minor suggestion.

My own curiosity has me wondering which users have significantly more than the 5,000+ maximum dive count. Wondering if people would use an updated upper limit?

Noticed the 'I don't log dives' is also popular with the heavily experienced. Perhaps along the lines of the 'scuba legend' designation in a lesser way I`d love the idea of recognizing at a glance those who have dedicated such a significant part of their life to getting underwater.

That's the idea.

Edit 2: Trace, it could be both. Ever been to a big aquarium?

Yep! Dove The Living Seas at DEMA. Of course, there they have to protect divers from dolphins instead of the sharks. You are free to swim with the sharks. So, it doesn't count unless you can get attacked by Flipper. Once they remove the bars and bubble screen ... game on! :)

I plan to dive daily when I retire...and will likely get about 300 dives a year then at best
If you dive daily and only get in 300 dives a year, that's quite a few multi-day dives. New kind of rebreather or a hookah and a cot on the bottom? snicker

Is this a competitive thing? "Dude, my log is bigger than your log"
I never had a chance in that race.

Anyway, is this similar/different from the competition to collect every kind of c-card on the fewest possible dives?

Is there a way to measure experience and skills growth for the purposes of impressing people on SCUBABOARD in a way that actually reflects increased skills?

Post videos.

Like 70's "Rocky" Soundtrack mixed with scuba?

Next time I teach this I'll try to dip my fin tips less. That should be an improvement in performance. Maybe the student will improve to hold the camera steady too!

Well, yeah. You did use the words "competitive" and "Dude" in the same paragraph right? :)

Yes on both counts. Similar since the motivation is bragging rights. Different because log books are harder to frame and put on your den wall.

Serious now: IMHO ask intelligent thoughtful questions, offer replies you believe are helpful, and support your suggestions with explanations rather than absolute statements that resemble fact. I always learn more that way and everyone that invests the time will notice. I'm not always successful but I try.

Trace called my bluff. I don't actually have any videos of more than my fins, warding off an inquisitive seal.
If I DID post a video of myself, I would pretend it was my sister, Tsk tsk her style, then ask for advice on how to help her improve.
