I came back from the Philippines February this year and they did not charge me the departure tax.

I don't know if it is only during particular seasons or if it was canceled, but I just wanted to share that. (enjoy your trip, I really wish that I knew about it earlier, I would have loved to join)

Another thing that might be useful, the resort I was in was using Type A electrical plugs

did anyone happen to fly Delta last year on this trip thru Japan? if so how was the connection between fights in Japan our layover in Nov will be about an 1hr and 20 minutes should we be worried? Thanks Tod

@pinshootr I did not fly on this trip, but I've flown through Tokyo dozens of times, so I'll comment. Tokyo is set up for quick connections, and they are quite used to travelers in your scenario thousands of times a day. If you have your onward boarding pass already, going from Delta flight to Delta flight, you will be at the gate within 20 min of landing at normal operations. If you need a new boarding pass, you will have to go to the counter for a few more minutes while they get the new boarding pass. I wouldn't be concerned at all about an 80 min connection there.

We were on United and ANA, not Delta. But both Tokyo-Narita and Haneda seemed way more efficient than major airports in the US. I wouldn't plan for an 80 minute connection if I could help it because of the possibility of other things going wrong like late flights from other places. (Also because they're really nice airports with good things to eat. But I wouldn't worry about transiting through the airport, not going to be the weak link.

We took delta from mpls to Manila- had one stop in Narita/Tokyo- the gates were super close - I think our layover was 90 minutes- wouldn't have been a problem. As it turned out the second flight was delayed to wait for late passengers so we had lots of time.
