Just bought myself my first dive computer - $200 for the discontinued DG03 from dive gear express, woo hoo! (Actually, I bought 2, one for myself, one for my daughter).

Also ordered the bungee mounts, as I'm a solid convert for those things.

When they arrived, FOR THE LIFE OF ME I couldn't get those suckers into the bungee mounts. And I'm a fairly handy guy. Before pushing it too far or damaging anything, I called DiveGearExpress for tips and help. They suggested warming the mounts in hot water and using "gentle force". :) Doing my utmost to be careful, I wound up damaging the mounts anyway. Super, super frustrating.

The story has a happy ending, however - DiveGearExpress offered to mount them for me in new mounts, and paid for shipping both ways. It doesn't get any better than that. Given the trouble I had, I was skeptical that it was possible until they arrived and I saw them neatly mounted with my own eyes.

So my first purpose of this post is to give kudos where it's been earned. Awesome customer service by Dive Gear Express!!

Secondly, though, can anyone PLEASE offer me some tips or tricks on how to mount computers into the bungee mounts. Are they all this hard? I'm eventually going to be looking at a battery change and it really bugs me that I'm apparantly incapable of doing this myself. A follow-up email to DGE said to get one end of the computer into the mount, and then lay the computer face down on a firm, flat surface, and the mount will "seat itself". I didn't have luck with this approach either.

Is it possible that the mount has lost some flexibility after sitting on the shelf for so many years? Still, DGE was able to do it... or maybe they had a fresher batch. Nah, that's going to far to assuage my own ego.

Are these the DDS bungee mounts ?

I have three DG02s mounted in the DSS bungee. It was a little stiff, but workable. Start with one side and sort of rotate it in, without spinning it.

Warming it up might help too.

My first approach was to get one side in, and slowly work around the sides. Once I got to about 75%, it just wouldn't budge or stretch ANY more. It just seemed too small. But when I put them face-to-face, I could see that, if I could only get the damn thing in, it would be about the right size (the upper/outer ring seemed to be the correct diameter).

Like I said, I'm usually pretty handy. Can't help but think there's a trick I haven't figured out yet; don't understand how this has me beat. At this point, they're mounted though, and I ain't taking them apart just to monkey with 'em. I was hoping there was some kind of industry secret technique I'm unaware of.

IMG_8812.JPG I hear you when you say challenging to install .I read up on it first and was also losing the battle. Even heated it up in hot water. Managed to complete the install with only a small rip. Computer is held firm and bungee is working well. Not sure how a battery change will go . Prob just order another holder. Pretty happy with the computer ( for the price it's an awesome buy) and real happy with the bungee mount

Yep! Exactly my experience. Ripped in the same place. Thanks for sharing!!

Soaking in hot water for a couple minutes works great for me. It makes it super easy no rips and I've had to replace battery a couple of times.

are you pushing one side all the way down first before trying to push the rest in?

I would suggest you try pushing it in all at the same time in a "flat" position

Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble visualizing your suggestion, though. The computer I'm talking about is analagous to a triangle. How do you "push it all in at the same time" when the base is larger than the opening it's going into?

I've never seen a DG03 in person. I assumed it was a puck shape. If not, just disregard what I said.

it's a puck, but it's flared at the bottom

@wheeledgoat you have to start with one edge and the mount will get around it, you definitely can't push it straight in
