Okay… First, I know I'm new here. Second, I'm genuinely curious. And third, I read the entire 18-page thread of the "LGBTQ Divers?" question. As a openly gay, married man I would love to have a place to connect with other gay men, women, and like-minded individuals to discuss dive travel opportunities, to find dive buddies without having to worry about whether or not they might have a problem with me, and to feel comfortable talking about things that might impact us.

If possible, I'd like to have a board created under Non-Geographic Clubs called:

LGBTQIA Divers and Their Friends

I have spent the past week-and-a-half searching the internet (and this board) for such clubs, and I was surprised how lacking they were. It's been six years since the original question was posted in the thread referenced above. I know if I'm interested, that there are probably many others who would be too, but they may just be afraid to ask. Many of the responses in the thread above were not very understanding of what it is like living as an LGBTQIA individual in a predominantly heteronormative global society. Having such a space is not about excluding anyone, it's about having space where we don't have to worry about being who we are and can focus on what we love - diving (among many other things).

Thanks!

In principle I have no problem with the idea. Obviously we will have to discuss it in the staff area.

Out of curiosity, would this forum be open for posting by anyone, did you have any specific criteria in mind etc?

I would like to believe that we wouldn't need a special forum since we are (or try to be) so inclusive but as a cis heterosexual person the only opinion I have is that I don't get to have one.

And btw welcome to SB, good luck with your diving and hopefully you will hook up with a good group regardless of whether we have a subforum or not.

Can we add "and their families" as well? I have two cousins in gay marriages with two kids each, ages 10 to 14, that I would like to recruit into starting with junior open water, and it would help the parents to know their families have a safe segue into the sport. Thanks!

When I ran a liveaboard, we had LGBT groups occasionally. Never a better group of divers, and drama free.

I have no issue with a sub forum, but I believe your community would be better served having your own forum of its own....why don't you start a dedicated V Bulletin?

That would be great!!

You mean a completely separate website or on Scuba Board? I'd be happy with one on Scuba Board because it is already well established, but I'm not sure how to do that (i.e., I don't think I have the user privileges to do that right now). Which ever the staff think is best. I'd just love to see the space available somewhere on Scuba Board. :)

On the surface of it I don't see and reason to object to this idea. Do you mind if I create a poll to get a temperature reading on how much interest there would be for such a sub-forum?
