getting a DG03 into the @!#$!@ bungee mount

I apologize, perhaps I wasn't clear. To be sure, nothing prevents one from making two distinct loops - in fact, that's the preferred method.

Preferred by who? Not me. Having designed, laced, used and given away countless examples hands down I prefer the one continuous loop method.

It's *MUCH* easier to adjust for a comfortable fit, and offers a means to provide slack for dry glove rings as stated and demonstrated in the video above.

I was simply trying to alert Austin to that, despite clues and appearances to the contrary; i.e. the mount comes with only a single length of bungee cord and the mount seems designed to accommodate a single length (a single knot pocket on one side).

DSS offers the mount alone, and bungee by the yard. Of course I cannot control how resellers might choose to re kit my designs for sale.

Having dealt with a variety of things like this over the years....get them HOT. Don;t use warm water, use hot water. REALLY hot water. Hot enough that it's uncomfortable to hold them when they have soaked for a while. Works like magic on any number of things like this when assembling them. (Getting them out again can be another story, but one problem at a time.)

As the actual designer, and manufacturer of these items I do not recommend heating the part. They don't need to be more than about room temperature.

If you left your mount in an unheated garage in January in Maine, bring it inside over night. :)

The part in the video posted earlier wasn't heated, and removal is much easier than installing.

(But what do I know.......)

Tobin, I am perfectly willing to believe that *your* mounts need not be heated. Is the discussion about one of yours?
 
I bought mine from DGX and it came with the DSS mount. Not sure if there are others out there.
 

No way can what was done in this video be done with the computer and mount that was shipped to me. This proves that whatever is wrong in this equation, at least it's not 100% me. Thanks for sharing.

No mount DSS has produced requires heat, or tools to install. If you have the right mount for your instrument it can be done.

If you wish send me your mount and instrument and I'll pop it in. You pay the freight.

I sincerely appreciate that offer - I just might take you up on that come battery change time. In the meanwhile, for my own sanity I'm chalking it up to age (loss of elasticity sitting on the shelf) and hoping that over the next year or two before the battery change becomes necessary, the device sitting in the mount will help stretch it.

EDIT: Actually, if I send it to you, you must promise to video tape the installation. And no edits! I want to hear the cussing.

The TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) we use, Santoprene, has been used all over auto's for decades, under the hood for induction parts like the flexible boot that connects the air cleaner to the throttle body, and for window guide rails, the insert in the car door the glass rides up and down in.

One of the things that attracted me to this family of materials was the testing done on 20+ year old cars. Window guide rails were pulled from wrecked cars, ground up and used to shoot test coupons. These test pieces demonstrated the same properties as test coupons shot using new resin.

Short answer, DSS boots are pretty unlikely to get stiff sitting on the shelf.

BTW, many flexible "plastic" items are made using PVC. PVC is a rigid material, think PVC pipe, Until you add "plasticizers" then it's flexible, think beach balls. The plastiicizer used in flexible PVC's can evaporate and the parts get stiff, think old beach ball.

That just doesn't happen with premium TPE's

While I respect Tobin as the authority on this, I find them much easier to get the computer in and out of if I let them sit in warm water for a few minutes. I remember wrestling with my first one for ever! Sadly, Australia is a bit to far to take up the offer of sending it off to get it done.
