I've been debating with myself for years: Do I stay in my tropical prison down here in the Keys, or do I make an escape to Cave Country? A week from tomorrow, I will be closing on 10+ acres in O'Brien Fl. The kicker was actually internet access: there is cable there. Or so I'm told. :O There is a home on the site and a largish workshop. Everything has been packed and I'll be moving vehicles and trailers up there this week. I am less than a mile from Ichenetucknee's North Entrance, super close to Little River, close to Peacock and about 40 minutes to Ginnie. I will need the next month to settle down, and then I hope to start diving on a fairly regular schedule. Hit me up if you're in town.

FWIW, I'm in the market for a tractor with mowing deck, post hole digger, bucket, grader and backhoe. :D

I might be renting out the existing home when I finish building my big one! :D

Pictures not visible. I wish you many happy years in your new place :)

I don't know why those pics went away, but I've loaded new ones that appear to be holding. Here are some more:

A new neighbor was just quoted $10K by Comcast to run a cable <500'. Fortunately they looked closer and the conduit was in the ground already. They pulled the cable for free. Hope the cable is there and is actually working!

I designed and built my house and workshop before joining Scubaboard... all concrete to the rafters. Check EVERYTHING very carefully, trust no one.

Why would anyone move from the Keys? I mean the springs are great.... but there are no lobsters in them:facepalm:
Average home value in Key West just topped 1/2 million. Key Largo is somewhere north of $350. I would guess Pete payed in the range of $100k for 8 acres and a house and a half.

A big congratulations on becoming a gendered landowner in Northern Florida

The homestead appears to be a lovely place to set down some roots amd enjoy life to the fullest

Cheers from California
