I guess it would depend on where your skills currently are. Do you NEED intro to tech?

I have but the instructor I am thinking about using said intro and then an/dp. I do research before I start asking questions.

Required no, but might be recommended by your instructor. If you're just over the minimum req's and have little/no deep or doubles experience the intro to tech course is a good foundation for the AN/DP course.

I am working on getting double now so I can get use to the weight and the other issues that go with them. I am planning on diving them with a certified tec diver just to get a heads up on the procedures in using them.

Doing intro to Tech gives a chance to be sure you will meet the requirements to pass AN/DP. So, for example, if you are not good at shutdowns then get it right on Intro to Tech so you don't end up doing remedial work on AN/DP when time is short.

I had terrible trouble with shutdowns. Fortunately the instructor I used was available for the odd day so I could go back after Intro To Tech and after buying another drysuit to get it right before committing to a long, expensive and hard to schedule course.

Anyone who turns up for a course like ANDP unprepared is doing nobody any favours, least of all the others on the course.

I completely understand and thank you for the feedback. As I said I am buying doubles and will be working with a tec diver to start working on the basics. I have a good chance of being one on one when I do my course

Courses at this level benefit from having a good number of students. It allows more complicated failure scenarios with 'team' solutions. The 'team' aspects are important.

I did DP and Helitrox together. Just an extra theory module and two dives with helium. No sweat really. Just a bit of added expense.

Make sure you have the basics down. If you instructor is worth his salt then you'll be just doing fundamental skills until they are right

Twinset / Shutdowns / no mask etc

Otherwise you might not get a card at the end. You're not in Kansas anymore
