What the heck Delta, It's just a 2 1/2 hour flight from Atlanta. Unlike previous trips there's been very little up and down fluctuation, just a steady rise over the last several months. I just can't see paying in the 900 range for that short little trip.

I'll miss you my dearly beloved direct flight. Here we come bag drag.

I have always done the bag drag except for last trip when I had enough Skypesos accumulated to get my wife and me award flights direct to CZM. Boy was that luxury! The bag drag is the norm for us po folks. Are you taking the ADO bus or a private van? I have done both. When it's just my wife and me, we take the bus.

Just the 2 of us so we'll take the bus.

We just did the bag drag for the first time, it really wasn't that bad. Found a super cheap Southwest flight back to Cancun yesterday for February and couldn't pass up the nearly $350 per ticket savings!

Seems like prices are double from even 2 years ago. We used to get prices changing from 400-800 as we watched. Now nothing but $800 plus to CZM from Detroit.
How long does he bag drag take?

There are a few variables, but I'd figure on about three hours.

Ditto for us, on all the numbers you quoted.

I've done it three times so far this year. Its not bad. Buy the bus ticket from the ADO guys at the terminal. Do NOT buy the ferry tickets from the ADO guys! Buy the ferry tickets right at the pier from what ever company is the next to leave (there are three now). I do not buy the round trip so you can pick the next most convenient ferry from the island on your way home.
The first two times coming back to the airport I almost was denied Boarding by United as the bus was about 1:45 travel time(I only allotted 1 hr for the bus and 1 hr for the ferry)... I took a cab to the CUN airport last Saturday $69 for the three of us. Worst part was humping the bags up the hill to the van. Once there we made it to the airport in 35 minutes. I'll probably do the taxi/van from now on, unless solo and up really early to catch the O' dark 30 ferry. I can't afford to miss my flight and the bus seems to take too long recently going to CUN. Terminal 3 (most US flights) is the last stop btw. I'll take the ADO bus to Playa every time, unless in a rush. ADO is nice and really cheap. It's really not bad and if the cost savings is more than $200 on a RT ticket and I can get a direct flight out of CUN after 2:00pm I'll do the bag drag everytime. The key is that the flight is direct to/from CUN. No broken planes or weather in Texas or ATL. Just get to the CUN airport grab an adult beverage and start to relax.
Here is the shuttle people I used:
Cancun and Riviera Maya Tours and Transporation by CARM

If your return flight is very early, consider staying in Playa or Cancun the night prior. You can sleep in a little longer.

Did the bag drag out of Cancun yesterday morning. Had a relaxing and pleasant stay overnight in a cheap downtown hotel in Cancun near the ADO station. I was trying for a 0600 flight (stby) and took the first bus to the airport at 0430. The first AM bus gets to terminal 3 a few minutes after 0500 and I had only a carry on, so it was no problem getting through security in about 5 minutes. If I had needed to check a bag it would not have worked, AA and I suspect the other airlines are the same, have a 1 hour cutoff (by kiosk) for checked bags. If you plan to check bags, get there at least an hour prior.
