Hit a milestone in my thrifty diver logic I wanted to share.

My rebreathers, training and consumables just got "paid off" in gas savings switching from OC.

Does this mean I can buy another rebreather now?

The value rebreather diving provides me is far beyond mere gas economy but it feels good to know the theory worked out.

Dive safe, dive often,

you should stop buying such expensive gas

you should stop buying such expensive gas

That's exactly what I did! To be accurate, I simply did more diving I could not have afforded to do safely OC.

So how long did that take?

I started putting money into rebreathers in 2015.

Cameron

I calculated long ago that about 100 dives on a CCR using trimix is the break even point. Even you AJ can do that arithmetic.

Really?

Calculate the cost of a fill of LP 104's with 10/60 in them, I am sure you can take it from there.

It's about 170 cubic feet of Helium per fill, not including bailout gas fills. So about $150 per fill.

100 x 150 = way more than the cost of a rebreather, its 2 rebreathers.

Say you reserve a set of 104's for trimix only and you only need 85 cubic feet per fill, it's about $75/fill.

100 x 75 = $7500. The cost of one good rebreather.
