Any tips for removing a stuck Hollis Reg Cover?

OK, I have one possible solution, but before I go to it, I am going to try another.
I talked with the manager of a major Hollis dealer, and I asked him about this problem. He said that they have learned that pretty much nothing will work--once the 212 is frozen, it is frozen. When they encounter the problem, they now simply break the cover, discard it, and put on a new one.
I asked him about drilling two holes and using a spanner. He thought I might as well give it a shot before going the route of breaking the faceplate.

I understand that Hollis will be adding a hammer to the list of tools needed for regulator servicing.

I drilled two small holes opposite each other on the top edge of the face plate, right next to the metal ring. The holes were not deep--no need to go all the way through. Then I used an adjustable face spanner, inserting the prongs into the two holes. It opened easily.

John, where did you get that spanner from? Glad to hear it worked out. Would you consider lubing the threads for the future?

For the lower tec techs among us: a pin spanner can be quite easily made with a couple nails, a Hollis approved hammer 
, and a chunk of wood. Otherwise they are cheap off ebay or can be found in a bicycle repair shop.
... Love the solution with the pin spanner. A tec guru I know down south also applies the hammer directly as your original post suggests.

Adding pin before spanner makes all the difference. Thanks.
They can be purchased for a very low price from a number of outlets. I used one at a shop where I have an association, and I ordered one of my own today. You need one to open a number of models of first stages anyway.
