Fiji Siren - Lost at Sea

Received a call yesterday - 9 hours before our flight that the Fiji Siren was taking on water and had been evacuated. Needless to say, our trip was canceled. Does anyone know what happened? This is all I can find.

That's terrible news and I am glad that everyone is okay. I have never dived with them but they have been around for a awhile and many divers love them, but I am amazed because that makes the 5th ship they've lost in around 5-7 years! It is my understanding that they also lost the Oriental, Mandarin, and Palau Sirens, and the Truk Siren ran aground in a typhoon and was looted, and now the Fiji boat is missing - what's going on?!

Yes, terrible news but we are glad everyone is safe. We luckily hadn't left yet. We heard the others that were scheduled on our cruise were already en route from Europe. Hoping they were able to adjust plans. We canceled everything and booked last minute flights to Manila. Staying at the Atlantis in Puerto Galera. Dominick at Dive Advice and Sharon at the Atlantis were VERY helpful. We're told our money will be refunded from Siren. Hoping the trip insurance covers the rest.

Really? What is going on? Have you ever ever in your life heard of another liveaboard fleet losing 5 vessels in the lifetime of the fleet to inept crew, construction, or anything else? This is a complete and total failure of management to give a **** about their passengers. It is inexcusable. It also won't hurt their bottom line at all, as divers are sure their boat owner is acting in their best interest. I am completely disgusted with WWDS.

Really? You don't know anything about the boats or the company and just use words like shi..t and disgusted? Thats how scuba board staff cultivates a great discussion behavior!

So explain to me how a Taiphoon, sub surface floating sea freight container (which there are 10thousands worldwide) to just name two incidents is giving a **** about customers?
Before you rant out like this wait and see what was actually the cause. They do have a safety officer do have CO fire extinguisher, evacuation procedures, training... and thanks to that and the great crew nobody was harmed.

WWDAS owns a lot of boats and other than other fleets they actually own them and can blame someone else. Boats are risky and wooden boats are not exactly less risky than steel hulls...
