Pernicious Pop up ad Pests

This is an exploit in JavaScript discovered earlier this year, it’s my understanding there may not be much that can be done about it except to turn off JavaScript which will degrade your browsing experience. Time for new tech!

Why only on my mobile device, not on laptop or desktop (so far)?
Anyway:
How does one, to try the effect, turn it off (and then back on)? (In my case Android, Chrome)

I’m pretty sure it’s randomly done, so recreating this pop up is not going to be easy, in short it has to do with a way developers secure JS code, and there is not another option.

To stop it in the meantime, all you need to do is disable JavaScript, I’m not current with android or chrome so I can’t help you there, but google can.

You probably would never see it to begin with. It takes months of being on the web usually before needing to reformat the thumbdrive and reinstalling Linux. It's the way IT security professionals operate quite often.

Some Linux flavors are better at security.

But would you want to do this every time you check posts on Scubaboard?
I am hoping the Software Sleuths can figure out why this only happens when Signed In to Scubaboard.

I doubt you have javascript on your phone unless you or your phone provider manually installed it. I'm not even sure it exists for Android although I have seen emulators that allegedly work the same. I run Android 7.0 and Chrome on my tablet and neither have it.

Assuming you're running Windows on your orther devices - both have options to enable/disable javacscript in the Cnrome browser. I could be wrong but I believe Google normally disabled it in a previous version of Chrome as it was judged by them to be unsafe. Pretty sure Firefox did also.

Your problem is likely Android itself on your phone - it was never designed to be a complex OS but rather one that takes ups as small a footprint as possible in most phones limited memory space. I would try Ad-Block Plus or Malware Bytes is also available on the Google Play Store in case there's some malware already on your phone causing the problem

If your phone does not have JavaScript turned on, your web browsing experience will be very poor on a mobile device or some sites will not work at all. I believe you may be confusing Java with Javascript, mobile versions of websites rely heavily on javascript.

@Scuba J7 is spot on, I disabled JavaScript on my iPhone, and Facebook does not work. I put JavaScript back on and diverightinscuba-zombiepost comes right back.

The part of the ad with a countdown timer is causing that issue(redirecting to DRIS). I'm assuming that error lies in Safari since this issue does not seem to be effecting anything other than iOS. The other issue (pop up congrats or virus windows) can effect any site that uses JS, JS had been deemed pretty secure until the release of this particular vulnerability.

Maybe I am - I'm referring to the Sun Microsystems program. Also I don't phone browse at all except for an occasional website lookup. Pretty sure I've never browsed here from my phone.

Disregard Linux info, for those on anything but laptops, desktop computers. While Linux is available for iPhone it's not something that I would recommend for that platform.
