Hi @dmaziuk

We have exchanged many messages. I dive my DSAT computer to the limit, or slightly over, frequently. I would be severely limited by a more conservative computer. I always wish you the best with your Cressi, maybe your RMV is the limit.

I know you are, I was asking @loady.

And yes, my sac needs a tuck and my cylinder is smaller too.

I don't want to approach or enter deco or cut short a safe dive. I don't want the computer to lock up if I accidently violate it. I'll exchange it for a more lenient non RGBM one. Is there data/info on if a more conservative computer lessens incidence of dci or not?

There is no evidence that "conservatism" lessens DCI in recreational non-stop diving, ISTR claims that 40% of DCI cases are diving well withing their computers NDLs. If all you want is to see bigger numbers on your computer screen, get an Oceanic while they still sell DSAT computers: the trend is towards more conservative models for recreational divers, chances are they ll be gone in a few years. Or -- all together now -- get a Perdix. And dive it on 95/95.

My Perdix will not do 95/95.

A lack of evidence is not evidence of a lack of risk.

Staying longer at depth is riskier than staying a shorter time. Since people do get bent within limits those bends would all need to be unrelated to time for longer NDLs to have no impact on risk.

If you dive you can be bent. I'd love to see a study on which dive computer owners get bent the most. I'm betting that they can't pull any usable data out of any studies. Ascent rates and other things may have much more effect than algorithms.

It's quite possible that suunto owners afraid of conservatism set their computers to EAN 38 and dive air are the ones. That would prove that suuntos get people bent, wouldn't it?

I'm thankful for the great, open discussion in this thread. It's good to hear people of all different diving background talk about their experience with Suunto computers - it's not just the 'tech divers' who say they are conservative. It's a personal decision obviously - nothing wrong with conservatism if that's what you want. I just passed up a great deal on a Vyper and now I'm glad I did.
