has anyone ever done the PADI online updated for instructors? I have been in a non teaching status for a while now and got an email from PADI with the ability to get back into a teching status with just an online update. Has anyone done this before I would like to get back into teaching but have been slow to due to cost but now my children’s are old enough to dive and i would like to start teachings again.

I have done the online updates as opposed to going to
In-Person PADI Americas Member Forum. But in your case you would have to call Padi directly to discuss Toll Free: 800 729 7234 (US and Canada). You will probably have to get a sign off by a Course director, also know case of Instructor that had to repeat IDC & IE since in non-teaching status for a long time..

I have already talked to PADI personally and they said all I needed was to do the online course update and take a 25 question quiz at the end. How was the online update? They also said that if I didn’t complete the online course then I would have to do a update with an ie to complete renewal but if I sign up for the online update befor the end of this year then all I have to do is the online course. It seems much better than having to do a ie. How long did I think take you to do the online update? Thanks for the reply

Jeez, just do it. You'll never get a better deal than that!

Tursiops thanks for the reply and the good internet reminder to just pull my head out of my A$$ and just do it!!

I did all 4 sections in about 1 hour- just go to Padi pro page- Pro Developement- and to Member Forum-you can do 1 section then come back later to finish next. section-very easy and free. I am still really from my IE cost after 2 years..

I was surprised when I got the email last week with them telling me that I didn’t have to do anything but the online as i have been in a member but in a non teaching status for 4years. I called and they pulled everything up and all I had to do was do the online course. I was debating for a little while but once I could get costumer service on the phone i went ahead and just bit the bullet cause as people have said not going to get much sweeter deal than that.

sounds great and I would agree why not jump at chance- I guess they want your $350 dues plus your Insurance of $659 for year. Also only being non-teaching status for a couple of years (4) was a factor, I know a Instructor who was non teaching for almost 10 years since he went into commercial diving and had to do a IDC and IE over again
even though he was as competent a Instructor as most of Padi Instructors.

Was this because you continued to pay your dues during the 4 years, but you didn't have insurance? I ask because I haven't been doing much teaching and I haven't paid my dues yet for 2018. I was considering just letting it go, but of course the cost later to rejoin the teaching ranks (if the opportunity arises), is a factor in the decision.
