What should be expected when purchasing a guided dive trip?

Would you pay $120 for two 40 minute dives on a reef with a 12m depth limit?

at least 60 min per dive with nitrox included and it better be a nice reef that is hard to get to. else at 40ft deep, i'm paying the snorkeler rate and freediving

I think it would work for newly certified divers to help them get comfortable for first dives and to not feel stressed or rushed when in a group of seasoned divers.
Of course, 40 minutes could be too short.

thoughts on the value of an average 2 tank dive trip. the shop i currently work at charges $120 for a 2 tank dive...

Rottnest in Perth Western Australia is in $150-200 range for a two-tank trip. Some of the sites are at or above 10 metres. The difference is it's an 8 hour trip with lunch on-board. I don't believe they limit the dives to 40 minutes, and with longer run times and proper SI there's just no way you can do 3 tanks and get back while it's still light.

long boat ride can justify cost though. diesel isn't free. i remember i paid 160 for two dives on the rhone because it was from the shop on st john

Belize has a Mexican Rocks site that is 12' reef billed as snorkel and scuba site. It was a nice little dive on a dive boat, but we were stormed out of anything outside the barrier reef. I would not have picked it otherwise. It was only 41 minutes, I think because of current from the storm.

I don’t have a lot of experience with different dive operators but the depth is 1 thing- if that’s where rock bottom is sure not a big deal but don’t tell me my depth limit is 40’ in a wall dive.
And 40 min time limit I’d book elsewhere.

If it’s a long running successful business.........it is obviously working but if it’s a new (ish) business I think changing the time limit alone would do wonders for them.

Yes, that's what I was pointing out, but the OP mentioned being back at the dock to pick up afternoon groups so it doesn't sound like the case. (I did vote no based on that ass-sumption.)

My concern is with the word "guided". If that means that the guided party is two (me and guide) I do that sometimes. If it means he is leading a party of 8, then I am going elsewhere. I hate chasing after a group.

There is one popular dive site in Iceland that every operator charges at least US$300.00 for two shallow dives.
In Philippines I would expect 3 meals + drink + 2 dives for US$120.00 and without depth(rec range) and time restriction. Dive guide is always part of the package.

Supply and demand will dictate pricing. I wouldn't pay those prices for those dives. If other people will, I suppose the business will stay open. Sounds like some resort or cruise ship packages Are there better value options available locally?

Regards,
Cameron
