Since the announcement in early 2017 that PADI was sold to a company named Mandarinfish Holding, rumors have circulated that Chinese investors were behind this purchase. It appears the rumor is totally false as the investors behind Mandarinfish Holding are really rich American families led by the son of a billionaire in South Florida.

The lead figures leading and managing both Mandarinfish Holding and PADI’s board of directors are Albert J Dobron (tightly associated to the Khoury family) and Amin C Khoury from South Florida (the son of billionaire Amin J Khoury who co-founded B/E Aerospace in 1987 to sell it to Rockwell in 2016 for $6.4B).

FYI.

You mean all the racist slurs surrounding the sale aren't justified?

(To be clear, not suggesting the multitude of remarks would have been justified if the investors were Chinese)

PADI = Professional Association of Diving Instructors

Now = Professional Corporation of Diving Instructors ?

The article seems to place great importance on the fact that the owners are wealthy--that point is made a number of times. That sure is a shock. Who would have expected the people who paid $700 million for a company to be wealthy?

Funny, but... No, not necessarily. There are plenty of private equity firms listed on the stock exchange. If one of these equity firms had purchased PADI, you could have been one of the new owners with a $100 investment. Anybody can invest in these publicly traded private equity. The distinction is that it is not the case, here. It's a consortium of wealthy families - and that is how PADI announced it as well.

Thanks for your comments, though - and all the best for 2018 !

Click on the business name under his name in the post. It appears to be a consulting business aimed at dive shops, but that may not give you all of the information you are looking for.

PADI was purchased by a private investment company because it has the strongest cash flow of any
company in diving.
