O2 rebreather, gag strap, weighted line. Would be a bad day to need them.

Drager gag strap?

How about for OC?

Also, thanks for the point about the weighted line. Being able to hang onto something and easily control your ascent seems like a very important component, and setting up the line before the dive a critical step. Reminds me how important staging prior to the dive is.

Several hundred cuft of 02 and a weighted line.Probly get a FFM but haven't seen one used locally yet.Nobody died for lack of one.

I have a al40 or al80 with 02 in it in case a diver blows deco or starts feeling a hit.Can normally have a diver back in the water within a minute or 2.Unless we have to move because diver was chased out by sharks, which happens.

Have sat phone and a overpowered VHF to reach the USCG but helos are sometimes in use elsewhere and it would be 12 to 24 hrs hours+ before being anywhere near a chamber as we range to 150 miles from port and out for up to a week at a time.

Primary contingency plan is to get to a chamber ASAP. In the event of a series of catastrophic failures that would necessitate IWR, I’m quite glad to own a Panorama FFM, a couple regs with QC6’s on them, and a switchblock, and a weighted line.

Unfortunately not the drager gag strap, it's a homemade approximation, to be adequate in an oxtox situation or as condition worsens, the drager would be ideal from my reading. (The French military o2 rebreather accident data.)

I'll drop in to say, my IWR kit is desperate measures, and would be the lesser of two evils and needs refining, though I have drilled for it's use as is. I am aware other's have solid protocol history and success stories which is why this thread is of such value to me.

I'm currently on the waitlist for further training for IWR. (Dry chamber operator/tender currently)

I choose the oxygen rebreather over o2 bottles because of the heat loss OC results in. Secondly, (reality check needed?) a manually operated counter lung could be useful in assisted ventilation.

The biggest risk factor in IWR where I'd be deploying it is hypothermia. I've considered having a hot water wetsuit system prepared but have not implemented it yet. For now I keep packs of chemical warmers to stuff into the suit.

Regards,
Cameron

(The closest thing I've found to an affordable chamber is those used for camels, manufactured in china. Liability issues of using one on humans [even myself?] in Canada would be nearly as bad as being bent. If someone has a source for a better solution I'd welcome a PM.)

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Several posts were removed as off-topic, several other posts were removed that were responses to them. The discussion of whether IWR is advisable or not is taking place on the other thread. Please keep responses here pertinent to the OP.

I assume you take guns with you too on a IWR treatment dive for self defense?
