Hi all,
I am a regular SEA diver, quite experienced (a little less than 1000 dives) and SERIOUS UW photographer, with all the bells and whistles, sometimes winning a contest prize or two.

I have NEVER been to Japan, thought that might be the occasion for a weektime midst of April (combined with another week in Taiwan).Traveliing with my non diving wife, we must consider nice places to stay so we thought on a Tokyo + Okinawa itinerary, non exclusively diving.

I am eagerly waiting for your recommandation on where to go and info on english speaking dive centers.

First Tokyo area, I stumbled into a website refering to Osezaki and nudibranches (I am a nudilover), what should I expect, is this a good place for nudis, what would be the water temp and conditions midst of april (drysuit is a showstopper for me).

Secondly Okinawa, let's say 3 days diving, what is the kind of diving and which spots you would recommend. Where should we base our accoms for nice location (beachside would be tops), and close to any dive center specifically?

Thanks for any information you can provide, you can PM me as well.

If you like nudi April is a good time in Okinawa with lots in the area. Water temps in Okinawa will be just starting to climb at that time and should be mid 20's or so by then. Tokyo diving in April is still dry suit diving or thick wetsuit with temps in the teens. Air temps in April in Okinawa are usually quite nice and there are some great places to stay around the island and good beach and boat dives to do. You can check our webpage for more info at www.reefencounters.org I would suggest for Okinawa basing away from Naha and more to the middle of the island so as to have access to a variety of diving including some great night dives.

I will definitely check your website.

A little late but for osezaki, there's an inner bay and outer bay. The outer bay has sort of a wall area, tons of eels and more life, but vis can get bad. The inner bay is.. garbage, but around my (right-most) red circle it goes down to maybe 33 feet, then 49 feet, there have been some nudi there too. I dove it in early Sept and the nudi experts in my group had pretty good luck in the outer bay.

I dive exclusively around Tokyo and know Osezaki well. Both Osezaki and Koganezaki can be good for macro specially in winter time. But these sites are both on the West coast of Izu, it is hard to get to without a car and you will need a diving service from Tokyo. Also April and May is algae season so visibility will go down a lot which for macro is not a problem, only navigation.
Osezaki has more than outer bay such as sentan which has a beautiful soft coral forest which lost of moray eels and the occasional lion fish.
East coast of Izu can be reached by trains and Izu Ocean Park is the most recommended site and has a little bit of everything and for the keen eye has frogfish too. I try to keep a good overview of divesites here as well as have a YouTube channel with videos of some sites to give an impression.
