@The Chairman

Dear sir,
Would you consider making dive professionals (DM and above) immediately distinct from 'just divers' on this fine social board? I gain a lot of insight by being able to determine the 'flavor' of the poster and have recently been greatly surprised to learn of their professional status. I find this to be most unsettling.

It matters. You (posters) are or aren't posting as a professional. The unwashed massed don't always know this. Your SB persona does not reflect this as it should. No, we aren't all the same. Professionalism comes with obligations, titles, and transparency.

Show yourselves...

I get what low viz was trying to say he wanted a way to weigh the posters experience , I know there are instructors on this board saying they have 2k dives etc when I know dam well they have only been diving less than 4 years spouting info left and right even to the point of making asinine rookie mistakes , I have told them in private they are making themselves look bad because of what they DONT know and should ............but this thread has got way out of control till its just a pissing game

@abnfrog :wink:

You have an unfair advantage, you know me as real person, I know you as one of my most highly valued instructors. I try to appear true with respect to my online personna, never really sure how I'm being seen. I try, but that's it. I don't lose sleep over it. More amusing than anything.

I'm fine with this thread.

low viz that comment I made was NOT directed at you .in any way .........I know your experience and HIGHLY respect your diving ability

Yes, we all know your comment was directed at me! :wink::p:eek::coffee::popcorn::poke:

I give up ...I surrender :surrender:

Can we have some clarity here?
1)Poking the bear: :poke: Aimed at one reactionary person.
2) Chumming the waters: :sharkattack:Aimed at multiple, select group of people.
3) Cleaning the oven, by turning the heat WAY up: :angrymob: multiple snarky points to ensure everyone is pissed off.
4) Fuel on the Fire::gas: Aimed at restarting an argument that fizzled.

We can all reread our posts occasionally to see if one of these fits.

Not sure this thread is all about "posers". My initial take was that the OP wanted peeps in the industry to reveal their creds. People attempting to pose as more than they are is a topic for a different thread?

As long as they posted the correct creds then things would be fine in the OPs world? I disagree with that premise. Creds mean nothing to me. Demonstrated relevant experience, knowledge and balanced opinions gets my attention.

My issue is that some (many?) pros with real creds are inexperienced morons. Zero to hero? So why would I care what their creds are?

As a vacation diver I have only seen 1 rebreather in my life (and 1 sidemount person on 2 successive LOB trips, 1 DPV drive by and a few BP/W fanboys). The person wearing the rebreather was obviously the dive leader for the cluster f**k of divers on our day boat. The rebreather diver had terrible buoyancy skills and constantly bicycled with his split fins as he waved his hands about wildly.

Why would anyone care what his credentials were? Direct observation placed him in the ignore pool.

Edit: BP/W fanboys NOT fanyboys...
