I just joined the Stanley 50 gallon club.

These things seem like a great idea (and I've been thinking along these lines myself lately), but has anyone tried to travel with any of these on an airliner? These all seem to exceed the common dimensional limit of 62 total inches.
Also, that Lowes/Kobalt unit posted above looks promising, but I read the reviews, and it appears they've ditched the metal clasps in favor of some cheaper plastic ones, that are highly prone to breaking.

I saw these Husky units while searching, and they look solid, but I think it was these that some reviewers said had much smaller usable inner space than they appeared to have. Will this ^ one hold a full (but minimal) set of gear (7mm one-piece, jacket-style BC, reg, mask in case, and full-foot fins) ? I'm thinking that might be tough.

I understand the pool dives....but how do you folks store these things on a daily dive charter? the ones I've seen have been seriously in the way of everybody else.

My wife got me one (50 gal) with an integral table. I haven't done any mods yet as I am unsure if it is for diving yet....

+1, I used an early version for shore diving in SoCal, worked great. Please don't bring them on the boat, unless they are compact enough to fit under the bench, they really take up space and get in the way.

Yeah, it would be a PITA for a bunch of folks to drag one of these crates onto the boat. I was thinking more for travel/flying, but once there, just for the short trip to the boat (whether from the hotel or the car), a mesh pack like a Stahlsac or similar should be sufficient, and more practical. (BTW, i scored a really nice one at a thrift store the other day. It looks brand new, has the Dick's Sporting Goods logo on it, and I think it's intended for carrying carrying a few soccer balls or baseball bats, etc. It's of similar design, but noticably more robust than the Stahlsac-like bags, and cost me a whole $8 bucks !! )

Boat = milk crate. Those Home Depot Husky stack-able bins have caught my eye, and I procured a bunch for such uses...
